proving origin of alexandrite

Hi all, I've been doing some reading about alexandrite because I have a family heirloom ring that is made of alexandrite and what appears to be 24k gold. It seems that alexandrite from the Ural mountains is particularly valuable and I believe this is what I have because my greatgrandmother had lived in Russia around the turn of the century before returning to China because of the revolutions. My questions is, how do I prove that this is really Russian alexandrite? It sounds like most labs will only certify that it is natural alexandrite versus synthetic but the value would be much greater if I could prove its provenance. Is there a lab that is capable of doing this somehow? I suppose there must be differences in the trace minerals of stones from different parts of the world, no?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

GIA doesn't do origin reports on alexandrite. My guess is that developing the parameters for testing is too expensive to justify.

GIA does origin reports for sapphires, rubies, emeralds and cuprian tourmaline, which have much larger markets.

At least post the pictures so that we have an eyecandy to see.
