I heard today that my manager at work is looking for a part-time manager to fill an empty spot. It''s the perfect job for me, and I''d be fantastic in it. I figured I would never get anywhere if I just sat around and waited for things, so I went up to my boss and put my name in for the job. According to one of the assistant managers, he was pretty excited that I had asked to be considered, so I''m pretty hopeful. Anyways, I could really use some of that magic PS fairy dust! I am going to check in on it soon, but the final decision should happen sometime in the next 30 days (which seems like an eternity).

****Sprinkling manager dust everywhere!!****

Good luck!

GOOD LUCK!!

UPDATE:

Well, ladies, it looks like it may be a no-go. Our district manager isn''t happy with the fact that I can''t promise 2 years to the company. My manager and I are trying to pitch me as an interim manager, to help take some of the stress off of the other managers (at this point they can''t call out if they''re legitimately sick) until they get somebody who can promise them the time they want.

And I''m sorry I didn''t say this before, but THANK YOU all so much for the fairy dust and good thoughts. It may still work out, but I''m a little less hopeful now.

Me too, *poofing*. Can''t hurt! But just remember, it will turn out the way it should. Just believe that.

Ellen, I really do believe that. If I don''t get this promotion, it gives me more flexibility in starting time when I find a "real" job. If I do get it, I have less flexibility, but will be able to save more money and wouldn''t have to do a potential 2 month stint of distance with my BF. So either possibility is good. It''s just the waiting to find out that''s scary.

Either way, I did something I never expected myself to do and showed myself that I am capable of recognizing my worth and asking for what I (believe) I deserve. That''s a pretty new thing for me.

Thanks for the extra dust, ladies. I''ll let you know what happens in the end.

That''s a great thing, and a big thing, to be able to do, really.

Well a big "good for you" for going for what you want! I will continue to think positive thoughts for you...if it is meant to be, it will be!

FINAL UPDATE:

Well, I didn''t get it. My district manager couldn''t get past me not being able to give two years. He did say that if, at any point, I decide that I am willing to give them two years that he would love to have me.

I''m not all that upset, though. I was worried about having to pass up a job because I couldn''t start asap, but that''s not a problem now.

So thanks for all the dust, I think this situation worked out in the best way possible, all things considered.

I''m sorry it didn''t work out! It does sound promising, though, that you could end up in the position you wanted if you just stick it out a little while longer.

Thanks, Zoe. Yeah, it''s nice to have a backup plan. (Well, okay, it''s back up number 4, but still! It helps, mentally.)
