Oh My, just watched this movie (with Hillary Swank), and is one of the sweetest most moving films have ever seen.

really nice to have something remind you how special it is to have that one true love in your life....
Sorry all about the mushy post!!! Just had to share as I liked it soo much!

HaHa that's what I thought too.

I'll have to check out that flick!

I just rented it and watched it last night, and I found it touching in many ways, but had some issues with the plot. Yes, it's a fantastic date movie as it casts men in a very positive light, and reminds you that anything can happen, so special moments should absolutely be treasured.

I watched it on the recommendation of a friend of mine. He and his wife are the most gorgeous couple (literally, she's a model for Anne Barge and Vera Wang bridal among others), but I get the feeling they loved the movie so much because of the volatility of their own marriage. They have "throwing things" arguments and then make-up - a LOT! I just couldn't relate because DH and I hardly ever fight. We just make-up.

I don't want to spoil it for others, but yeah, aside from the fact that Harry Connick, Jr's character was so dumpy looking and acted like a baffoon, it was very sweet.

I also found it exhausting to watch. I'm extremely emotional (I cry at Hallmark commercials) and I spent the entire two hours crying.

I borrowed the novel from a friend a couple years ago and loved it. I''ve been waiting for the movie to hit Blockbuster so I can rent it...maybe I will grab it tonight!

I just watched this movie for the second or third time with my roommate today. What a tear jerker! It really is so sweet and I love Gerard Butler and Jeffrey Dean Morgan in it.

I just finished watching the movie and I too cried through the majority of it! I like movies like these that remind you not to take things for granted.

I totally agree about Harry Connick Jr.''s character. He really didn''t do much for the movie.

Yup, I cried the whole time - and yup, some of it reminded me of my and Fi''s r''ship...but I hope I''m not that mad! I agree though, there were some funny moments but I didn''t really *get* connick''s character.
Good clean fun!

This movie made my husband-to-be look a bit silly, as he made continuous bathroom trips to grab tissues for me! I am pretty sure I cried about 70% of the movie...not kidding.

I LOVE Gerrard Butler (only a great, good looking guy can play the Phantom, Dracula, King Leonidas, and Gerry!!!)....

I watching in on the flight to Vegas too and cried almost the whole the time, the girl next to me was like omg what is wrong with you. I just kept thinking what if that happened to my hubby.

One of the most emotional movie experience I have had in a while. I wish they had warned me!! My DD and I were sobbing sobbing.
Now she gave it to me for Mother''s Day which is sweet as she obviously felt we bonded over the tears lol!

I haven't seen it yet, thanks for posting! I do have to recommend Catch and Release, it's a similar storyline. I think you'd probably like it!

ETA: Ok let me put one word of caution out there. Similar storyline, but different also. Similar in that the SO dies and life changes kind of thing!

That is funny you mention Catch and Release. About half way through PS I love you, DH commented that this was going to be another Catch and Release movie. I cried during that entire movie! They were very similar.

I couldn''t even watch the whole movie. I cried so much I had snot so I kept leaving for tissues and I''d come back and ask ''what did that letter say?''

It just killed me when she''d talk to him.

Out of curiosity, what did you all make of Gerard Butler''s Irish accent? Genuinely wondering!

Maybe not as bad as Nicole Kidman in Far and Away but it was surely awful...
It went in and out drawing attention away from what he was saying.

I was wondering if anyone would bring that up

His accent was interesting, and seemed to change a little in the movie. He is Irish (I thought) but grew up in Scotland...so his real accent is Scottish....

Me too I felt like such a loser crying so much!

Wow, DH went to Blockbuster yesterday afternoon and I sent him with my list, which included PS I love you and 27 Dresses, and he came back with 27 Dresses. After reading this thread, I remember how much I cried while reading PS I love you, so I''m kinda glad I didn''t rent it and watch it by myself! (DH watched his movie downstairs, I watched mine upstairs since we were doing our own movies this time!) I will save renting it for when I have a girl friend over or I do a movie night at a friend''s house, I don''t think I want to be alone and depressed when I watch PS!

Oh, Far and Away! I think I cried all the way through, and not at the plot!
2.gif
Actually I didn't think Nicole's accent was too bad in that film, but maybe she just sounded passable compared to the travesty that was Tom Cruise doing his best Oirish impersonation! My favourite bits were - "Shannon, yerra carkerrrr, a carkerrrr I tella" and "Shannon, Oi doyed Oi did!"
32.gif
It irked me no end that he kept sliding in and out of some terrible Cork leprechaun effortish thing, and then called his father "Da", which is pure Dublin! Oooof.

Belle, Gerard Butler is Scottish born and bred. I love that accent!

Bee so you clocked it too eh?
2.gif
The sound of him in the trailers alone made me wince and almost put me off going to see the movie...

I saw an interview with Cecilia Ahern and she said her favourite thing about the movie was how beautiful it made Ireland look. That alone made me want to see it. I love this place! The book made me bawl my eyes out so I didn't go in the cinema - I figure that's a movie best watched at home with only BF to laugh at the mess

Monarch, I loved 27 Dresses, great movie! Did you like it?

I will have to rent this. Is it for rent?

Delster, I loved loved love 27 Dresses! It was such a fun movie and I thought Katherine Heigl is gorgeous and James Marsden is adorable!

I actually haven''t seen it yet or read the book
23.gif
But the Irish accent from the trailers definitely made me wince too! I love seeing films that are shot over here. Wouldn''t want to live anywhere else.

Skippy I loved it too! The ''Benny and the Jets'' scene? So much fun!

bee - be warned, it''s a tearjerker! It''s a short read but it is incredibly sad. They changed the story a bit for the movie (main character''s no longer Irish, she gets taped messages instead of letters etc).

Can anyone tell me did they keep in the storyline about Holly''s brothers? And the one about Gerry''s friends? I thought those added a lot to the plot (they showed Holly maturing I think, as she worked through her grief) but I can''t imagine how they''d keep those in given they changed her nationality...

Bee, only the very first message was taped voice recording, then the rest were the letters - what makes it romantic!

I haven''t read the book, but both Holly and Gerry''s family feature heavily, which is also a big factor of what makes it sweet i think. Holly had a sister and 2 best friends, one of which was phoebe from friends, who I thought was real funny. No brothers though. Her girlfriend is I think married to gerry''s brother...
anyway, don''t want to spoil anymore details!

Skippy, yes its for rent at moment - you should get it!

Ah, sounds like they eliminated those storylines entirely then. Which makes sense cos they relied on Holly and Gerry having always lived in Dublin. That's a pity, those two storylines are the ones that stayed with me most from the book.

Anyway I can understand why they made the decisions they did with the casting and the plot. And I'm looking forward to seeing it when it comes out on rental here! I'm going to rent it and watch it with my Mam cos I know she wanted to see it while it was in the cinema but she didn't get a chance. We'll probably be blubbering messes together, ha ha!
