Well I have my "Tacori List" on here. I guess my top 3 musts were the cradle swing, boppy, and my snap ''n go. (For the first 4 months) Then my top 3 for bigger babies would be my bumbo, exersaucer (!!!!), and she really likes her crib piano toy (fisher price). We don''t use our pack ''n play much. Also she never really loved the bouncer/infant chair. We only used our full size stroller twice. I wish I hadn''t gotten the travel system. My must haves are the Target nursing tanks, soothie gel pads, and a study pillow (so I could sit up comfortably and nurse in bed).

Curly, you should have sent all those burp clothes my way! I had a spitter/drooler

TGal, Welcome to our new home!

softly, I try to distract her....so hard. Good luck potty training! I got a few years before that.

Tgal my mum also says that my brother and I were toilet trained before we turned two, but she also admits that her memory is hazy. I think cloth nappies may have had something to do with it as I know the feeling of being wet can be a big motivator for some kids.

Vegas I hear you - it is annoying when others feel the need to comment on what your child should be doing by a certain age. With things like potty training it''s definitely not something you can force.

Tacori - wait until Tessa walks and can run away from you when it''s time to change her nappy!!!

Oooh the toilet-training topic is always an interesting one. I''ve also read that cloth diapered babies tend to potty-train earlier, since they can feel the wetness more readily. My mom says she had no problems training me or my brothers (all cloth diapered), each at some point during our 2''s. She read a book called "Toilet training in 1 day" and said it worked flawlessly. You essentially just devote an entire day to hanging out in the bathroom figuring everything out and getting rewarded for it... and apparently none of us had any accidents after that first day.

DH''s cousin, on the other hand, REALLY wanted to toilet-train both her girls simultaneously, while they were fairly young (aged 18 and 24 months) and had a rough time with it. It''s been almost a year and she''s still having a lot of problems (still constantly switching between diapers and undies, etc)... I''m assuming because she "pushed" it before they were ready.

I babysit for a little girl who is 3 and a half, and not yet potty-trained. She is smart, well-behaved, and developmentally on-track... just has no interest. Her parents are very laidback about it, and I totally respect that. They know it will happen eventually, so in the meantime, they''re not rushing anything.

great idea to get this thread open Tacori! I kinda fell off the other one, it moved too fast with all the new preggo''s, and I felt rude if I didnt respond to everyone!

Ian is 9 months old today! I cant believe he is such a little man now. Crawling, eating finger foods, and as of today...trying to climb the stairs. I need a gate ASAP!

SHOWER GIFTS! I think its funny how everyone uses different baby stuff. I love my wipe warmer and my diaper pail(diaper champ/any bags)! I use them many times a day, but they are on almost everyones worthless list. I also really love my ducky tub, the blow up tub for after the infant but before the real tub!

I have nothing to add to potty training, except my grandma rewarded me with red hots when I used the potty and cinnamon is still a favorite flavor of mine! I haven''t even begun to think about that!

Hope all is well with everyone! My big news is that I accepted a job offer today. I havent worked in a year and half (quit my job before I even knew I was preggers) and times are a bit tight around here so I have been looking. I''m actually really excited about going back to work (not the commute, job is in Beverly Hills) but it is kinda bittersweet. It has been so nice to spend this time with the little man. I''m still not sure what we are doing about childcare. My DH works from home, and just wants to watch him and have his mom come over a few days a week. I think that will completely interfere with his work and/or leave Ian playing by himself...but we will try it based on DH''s insistance!

Do we need some new pictures? Here is one from the beach this week!

Awwee MsF,
look how much fun Ian is having on the swing
1.gif

he''s so cute.

Congrats on your new job!

msf- Ian is such a cutie...love that pic!!

tacori- that is so funny you don''t use your travel system. I think (or at least hope) you will when tessa gets bigger. I use mine all the time. I just open up the stroller and pop jakes carseat in when we go on walks, to the park, to the pool, to the mall. I love it and love the cup holder. I used the umbrella stollers too for quick errands with Lily, but really like how the big stroller has the cup holder and snack tray for the kiddo''s which does come in handy once they can munch on cheerios. What does Tessa ride in now? is she still in her carseat/snap and go?

the problem with waiting too long past 3 is a lot of preschool''s will now allow children in their programs who aren''t potty trained. it may not matter if you aren''t planning on sending your kid to pre-school though.

Hmmm... good point. She does go to a preschool at a temple nearby, so I guess maybe theirs has looser guidelines around that? Here in center city Philly, a lot of the "top" preschool programs are sort of combination daycare/schools, I've noticed... so I guess maybe they're more flexible on those rules. But now that you mention it, I remember my mom explaining that my brother had 3 years of preschool because he started at the age of 2, siince he was already potty-trained at that point and that was their main requirement.

Just chiming in to say that we bribed my niece with ballet lessons during potty training. All her friends were taking the class (at 3!!!) but you had to be potty trained to put on the little leotard and tights. It worked. Of course later she hated the class... but it was a means to an end. She took dance for 12 years by her own choice. The value of peer pressure I suppose.

Ephemery1, it varies in Vegas, too. Most of the places I called accepted non-potty trained kids but with a hefty fee. Most are daycare/pre-school combined & the ones there arent dont start enrolling until 3 or so if I remember correctly.

RE: Potty Training: I TOTALLY forgot my friend said the DVD called "potty power" is awesome and helped with her DD. My brother would kill me if I said this in a public forum but since he is almost 22, I think it is okay....well my brother was not potty trained until 4. It got to bad he was changing his own diapers! No joke. He was 3 month early so he hit all his milestones later but I think it got to be a power issue. My parents tried EVERYTHING. Candy, toys, finally he wanted to see a movie and my mom said only big boys could go. That was the motivation he needed.

MsF, I love Ian. Tell him I got his future wife here in NC. He is such a cutie. What type of finger foods does he eat? I know I should give T some. All she has had is those puffs that dissolve. She hasn't gotten the hang of those (but she can pick them up and put them in her mouth) but then she spits them out. Congrats on the new job! Hope it is great. Is it with a restaurant?

MrsS, I think we will go right into the umbrella stroller. I thought about selling it but I doubt I would get much. Plus my MIL got it for us so I would feel guilty. She is still in the SNG (for errands)! I love it and it is so easy. She still fits but sometimes I feel bad b/c she gets hotter in it that I think she would sitting in a stroller. We haven't been going on any walks since it is so HOT here.

ETA: softy! Stop scaring me!

Vegas, how old is your little one again?

Hey MsF, welcome to this thread! Ian is such a cute, happy boy. Is the weather lately crazy or what?

Tacori, with how hot it is lately and Amelia coming on three months, I am wondering if I should move to my maclaren. You are right...the babies get so HOT in the carseats and she is all sweaty when I take her out. I feel guilty for putting her in there for the sake of convenience...
39.gif

TGal, I think it is okay if you are running into stores but I wouldn''t take her in a long walk. When we were looking at cars T was sweating SO bad her hair was wet. I felt horrible. But she wasn''t crying or anything so maybe the heat doesn''t bother them as much as us. Who knows! I usually just dress her in a onesie and that''s it.

Yup...Amelia has been in onesie''s only lately. If it gets any hotter, I''m going "Brittany Spears Ghetto" and leaving her only a diaper all the time.

I only use it for errands but I do leave her in it if we are at a restaurant. I may have to consider leaving the maclaren in the car for that purpose but I think TGuy would be peeved that there are THREE strollers in the car. And if anyone ever broke in, they would have hit the jackpot for strollers!!

the handle''s on my umbrella stoller are pretty low and i''m only 5''3". my hubby who is 6''2" can''t really even push it b/c it''s so uncomfortable for him. I hate taking walks with it for the same reason, well that and no cup holders..lol. can you tell I just love cup holders? maybe b/c my peg perego didn''t have them and now I''m bitter..hehe. anyway, I wouldn''t sell your big stroller just yet. the back reclines in the big stroller, perfect for napping while your on the run. i say wait a bit to be really sure you''re not going to use it.

Jake gets totally sweaty in the carseat too. I feel so bad for him. He''s usually dressed in just onesie. I can only walk with him in the early a.m before it gets too hot. this week it''s been better but it''s back up in the upper 80''s low 90''s next week.

MrsS, have you checked out the maclarens? They handles are pretty high...

tgal, I haven''t. my hubby has banned me from buying any more strollers due to the fact we''ve owned the peg perego, 4 different umbrella''s, and a schwin double. so I just have to use what I''ve got. I will have to buy another umbrella at some point for Jake b/c the one I have now is pink
9.gif
so maybe I can look into a maclaren? I''ve heard good things about them. I honestly don''t mind my big one at all though. I have a van so it goes in the back just fine and I don''t find it bulky. but anything would seem small after pushing the double wide schwin for a few years...

Vegas, how old is your little one again?

She turned 2 this past February.

Sorry for scaring you Tacori - it's all good!!! Actually your brother sounds like my son. We knew he was completely capable of recognising when he needed to go but for a couple of months he absolutely refused to wear undies. We also tried everything - including Santa leaving him some 'special' underpants with the Wiggles on them and THEN bribing him with chocolate if he put them on (huge deal in our house). Well he had them on for just long enough to devour his chocolate before they came off. Finally I worked out if I held out on an expected treat long enough, while acting like I didn't care if he co-operated or not he came around and didn't look back - thankfully.

It's Sunday morning here - my husband is on kid duty. He gives them breakfast every Sunday while I get to lie in or do what I like - in exchange for him being able to go on a ridiculously long bike ride every Sat morning. However I do find myself wondering if it is worth it as the kitchen always looks like a bomb has exploded afterwards and the kids generally always come looking for me.

I also wonder why it is I am able to have them fed, dressed, the kitchen clean and a load of washing done by the time he gets home while the best he generally manages is breakfast. Although they do have lots of fun playing and the kids talk about Sunday morning all week.

MrsS, hopefully we will use it. Seems like a waste!

well, if you don''t, you should be able to get a decent price for it on craig''s list or something. especially if it''s basically brand new.

tgal- forgot to add my current chico stroller to that list..maybe hubby has a point..

softly- my hubby makes breakfast for my crew on sat. mornings when I go walking and then to coffee with my friends. he usually does and ok job of cleaning up the kitchen but the rest of the house is usually a mess. it''s worth it though just to have a few hours with my girlfriends.

LOL MrsS...you do have a lot of strollers! But there is always room for another. Tee hee. I got my maclaren secondhand on craigslist...I didn''t want to pay $200 for an umbrella stroller. Plus I loved the discontinued print.

I took Amelia to Target today. It''s so fun taking the baby out...she''s just looking everywhere at the bright colored displays.

So can I tell you ladies I am already dreading our Christmas trip to Oz? I love to see in inlaws and all, but 24 hours worth of traveling with Amelia does not appeal to me. I am PRAYING she will still fit in the bassinet on the Qantas plane when December rolls around.

Time to put the tot down to bed with a bath beforehand. Then it''s thai food and wine for me. TGuy comes back home Monday. His NYC trip is cancelled now (he was supposed to leave Thursday for 4 days) and is it awful to say I''m kind of sad about it? I mean, I LOVE that he will be home, but I truly manage Amelia fine without him and it makes it a LOT easier to do little experiments (like weaning off swaddles and pacifiers at night) when he is not home so I don''t have to worry about Amelia waking him in the middle of the night! Ah well...I guess I do miss him though.
1.gif

TGal, traveling with baby is so hard (not gonna lie!) But you''ll do fine. I hope she still fits in the bassinets too. Did you reserve one? Are your ILs going to stock up on stuff (diapers, food, etc) for while you are there? Wow I am dreading our 10 hour car ride soon! You know she might be old enough to "watch" a dvd. Do you have a portable?

Hello mommies! All this potty training talk is making me wonder what T will be like to potty train. Not worth stressing yet....
9.gif

Funny you all are chatting about strollers and being hot. I took T to my little bros baseball game today (it was beautiful-80 degrees, slight breeze) and I used my chicco and it was perfect. She could sit up and play and then when she went down for a nap, I reclined it. I also like the drink holder and little cubby thing (I put my keys and phone in it usually). I have never had a problem with it. While it''s a little heavy, I find it really easy to use and have no complaints. When we made it to the car and I had to put her in the carseat that had been in the hot car for hours, she was pissed! By the time we got home she was so hot and sweaty I put her down for her nap naked.
3.gif

MrsF~Congrats on your new job! Ian is a doll!

As for shower stuff~I agree with mrsf that every baby is different. For us, we never used the wipe warmer and rarely used the diaper pail. I LOVE our bumbo and couldn''t have lived without a boppy boppy. We use our pack ''n play on our main floor for changing ect so I would be lost without that. I hem-hawed over getting a swing but boy am I glad we did! She still takes almost all of her naps in it.

Tgal~I totally know how you feel about husband being away. Makes it seem a little easier to try new stuff or do stuff you wouldn''t do with them around. My hubby is playing in an out of town golf tourney this weekend so it''s just T and I. I just watched a movie with her in my arms. I would never do that with DH here because he''d be questioning how that''ll effect her sleep patterns yada yada yada. It felt good to cuddle.
2.gif
9.gif

Okay, better go get some laundry done.

Oh I miss the cuddles. Seems like now that she is more mobile she *hates* to sit still!

So does anyone else have a Ross by you? I went today for the first time it is awesome! It is like a lower end TJMaxx. But they have good brands. I bought her some really nice clothes CHEAP. Like silly cheap. I am addicted. Plus I got these great little plates and bowls that will be perfect for her.

Yea, Tacori, I miss cuddles too and the only way I can get them is if she's sleeping!! So, even though I know I should have put her in her crib when she felll asleep drinking her night time bottle, I was selfish and didn't!
3.gif

We have a Ross about an hour away. We go every once and a while and I typically find some good deals. I love a good deal! Speaking of, we went to the Carters outlet yesterday and they were having "sidewalk" sales and I got some new PJ's for T for $7 each...I was pretty proud of myself! (They were 12 months!
23.gif
)

Tgal how old will Amelia be when you fly over here? My son still fitted into a QANTAS Bassinet when he was 9 months old and he wasn''t especially small. The only problem I found was that they are rather high up and awkward to put a sleeping baby into if you are short like me. Also I found that here in Australia just requesting one when booking the flights wasn''t enough to guarantee being allocated one. I was not happy when flying to Perth from Melbourne once to see passangers without kids in those seats while we had to make do with cranky babies on the lap

Burk, I got the cutest OshKosh 24 month dress (green with white dots) for $5.99
36.gif
They had a lot of carter stuff but I think I bought only OshKosh (since she had a lot of the carter''s stuff already). It was all $3.99-$5.99. I was so excited. I think I might have to go back
27.gif
I also saved $18 at BRU today (with coupons) so that was exciting. I also love a good deal.

SS, Amelia will be 8 months. And I know they don''t guarantee a bassinett, so I am stressing a little. But in the end, I guess it is not the end of the world.

Tacori, we do have a portable DVD we got as a gift, but Qantas has screens at each seat. I probably won''t have Amelia watch any kind of TV for awhile...mostly because I never watch it and if she can make do without it, that will be fine by me.

We have a Ross, Marshall''s and TJMaxx all within a mile from our house. I like TJ Maxx the best and Ross the least, but there are definitely good deals to be had at all of them! I also love Loehmans. Tacori, I won''t buy anything (except gifts and stuff for other people) unless absolutely necessary unless it is a good deal. I hate paying full price for stuff because you know it will almost always be cheaper at some point!

Burk, hehehehe...sometimes don''t you think it would be easier to be a single mom? And then you think...NOT!
3.gif

Hey, wish me luck ladies...since TGuy isn''t going to NYC next week, I''m going for broke tonight and have Amelia completely out of the miracle blanket and in her light cotton Halo Sleep Sack. It took her a little longer to get to sleep tonight (about 10-15 minutes), so we''ll see how long she stay asleep until he bonks her head with her hands. I wouldn''t have tried it this early except this afternoon when I went to check on her nap, the miracle blanket was completely wrapped around her face.
32.gif

TGal, Ross was dirty for sure but they had some nice stuff. Good luck with A!
