Pure red lab grown Ruby

Thank you so much for your advise. I'll search the spinel.
Could you also recommend me a Ruby vendor?
Thank you.

Really tricky question. If I was in the market for a serious purchase, I would turn to Robert Genis from National Gemstone, he has some spectacular rubies, all AGL certified unheated. Otherwise you can try Vlad Yavorskyy, he has some very fine rubies too. Or Africagems. These would all be natural rubies.

For synthetics you can ask Gary Braun from Finewater gems. I have 20+ synthetics and his is - by far - the best one. Precison cut, excellent brilliance and fire, perfect color. Not cheap but you pay for the cut and design, he knows what he is doing

Not sure Gary B at Finewater Gems has any lab Ruby listed, however it is Tucson coming up and it may be worth asking him if he could look out for some suitable roughs during his buying trip.

Very nice vendor and I met him in person during Tucson 2023.

DK :))

Thank you so much.
For reference, this was done by Gary Braun, I asked him to replicate a natural ruby cut I saw and he came up with this design, which he now uses a lot for other synthetics. GREAT stuff.

That is so beautiful. So you have this Ruby, isn't?
Could you share a photo made by you of it, please?
Thank you so much

That specific one is not mine, no. I bought the first one he did, but it’s basically exactly the same :) I’ll see if I can take a decent picture in today’s weather, sure

Great, Thank you!

Indoor, overcast sky. Yes, it’s very red :)

Thank you so much, is so beautiful!
Does it glow with a lot of fluorescency in the outdoor under sunlight?
I like it so much but in my screen I see it pinkish. I would like even redder than this.

Any redder than this and it will be dark, going brown in anything but direct sunlight.

Rubies are pleochroic, there will always be some pink (like this one) or orange (which when dark is essentially brown), there is simply no way around it.

You may want to read about pleochroism, there is a lot of information available for free that is far better than anything I can come up with :)

Yes, I know the pleochroism in the Ruby.
I would love something like this:IMG_20250119_155945.jpg

Is no pure red, but this color would be Perfect for me.

Yes, USD 120k and it’s moderately included ;)

I own the younger brother of this one, 1.01, identical color, identical clarity. How do I know? I bought it from the same vendor this picture comes from. I love it, it’s amazing, but not perfect red, it has SOME pink and purple. More than the synthetic I showed you. Pure red rubies don’t exist, different lights and different viewing angles will affect what your eye sees

Direct sunlight, strong fluorescence, which is pink-red, never pure red

Indeed
I reafirm my opinion with your photos. That is more or less I'm looking for. Not a pure red but a "perfect imperfect red". I see it redder than the synthetic one, but maybe is because the angle. Beautiful fluorescence as well. I know the fluorescence is always pinkish, nothing bad with this
Thank you so much.

You’re very welcome, I am always happy to share pictures of rubies :)

You see Pink in that? Interesting…

If you’re referring to the little bit of purple that you see flashing when it’s turned upside down, that’s just normal pleochroism.

OP has better eyes than this girl! I feel like your lab example is the color all rubies aspire to be. :kiss2:

Good luck finding your perfect stone, OP! I hope you'll share it with us.

Again... simply gorgeous stone, my friend. And rubies with a slight pink modifier are perfectly acceptable, if not preferred. Any whiff of orange? Zero tolerance in the ruby collector world.

I'm pointing that out because, I think for some folks, a touch of orange reads as a purer red. If that's the case, then I think the suggestion for OP to move on to spinel is a wise one. Because the "stoplight" reds tend to have that subtle breath of orange (stopping short of flame spinel, of course). And I think that might be what OP is going for here.

And I am always happy to look at them. :D

You are back online, it’s been a while :D good to “see” you, Autumn!

I really like your comment on red spinel having a hint of orange (especially under incandescent light, less so in natural daylight), you are spot on. A great example is Ferrari Red which has some orange in it despite being close to what anyone would call a perfect, furious RED

Thank you so much! I'm talking with the suppliers of the OP Ruby in Hong Kong and I'll probably get a one like that much less expensive, but I have to wait a little because they have their New Year holidays right know. I'll keep you posted!

I definitely like the spinel stoplight reds, as is a bright strong red and I'm searching a lot of spinels. Most of them are a little orangish as you said and is difficult to me find the "perfect" red tone for me too

This is my red spinel - terrible photo, sorry, I will post better ones later

Thank you, is so beautiful and Red No orange traces (on my screen), but a little little bit pinkish.

In natural daylight it photographs great and looks like in real life. Very red, zero pink

Thank you! It does bright from inside with a strong red. Is amazing!
Where do you get it? I imagine is quite expensive.
