Hi Everyone, I have a ring mounted in yellow gold and am looking to have to remounted in white gold. I went to two local jewelers and they both told me that I could have it remounted or I could just have it rodium plated and according to them it will look the same.
Is that true? thanks

Phil

It''ll probably look pretty much the same...sometimes, the rhodium doesn''t "take" as well in little niches, like where the prongs touch the diamond, etc. but mostly, it works well.

However, rhodium plating is not a permanent solution...You''ll have to have it redone every few months, depending on wear & tear on the ring. Often, people plate their ring to see what it might look like before switching settings or as a temporary change. if you have to plate it, let''s say, 3X a year, after a few years, you''ll likely have spent enough to switch the settings.

I also don''t know how hard it is to remove/get the ring back to yellow gold finish.

Rhodium plating will wear off unevenly and leave you with a leopard print ring! One member posted a while back about this happening and she was VERY upset!

Out of curiosity, did you speak to a sales person or a jeweler?

Hi;
thanks for the post. I spoke to a sales person first and he gave me a price to have the ring reset, then he went and talked to the jeweler and he told me it was better to get the ring plated and that all the rings there that appeared white were yellow gold that was plated, which to me sounded untrue so I said I had to think about it. thanks

Phil
