Does silk affect the stone's overall durability at all? I have found myself really preferring silk in certain gems recently. It seems to give them such a glow.

To my knowledge, I don't think silk in stones hampers durability. Usually a feather along a corner, or a surface reaching crack like emeralds have, are inclusions that do hamper durability.

my understanding also.
feathers or cracks to the surface can be a problem.

My understanding is that some silk is usually fine; it’s those that are overly opaque that may pose an issue as they may be masking huge feathers or cracks that are difficult to spot.

I think just a little evenly distributed silk is so nice in a gem! Good point though, never thought about it masking troublesome inclusions!
