I''m looking to get a gift for a friend in NYC, specifically a spa day. Do any of you New Yorkers have suggestions on "chic" spas in Manhattan? I want to surprise her with something fabulous.

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Bliss is pretty good. I would suggest you go to the new one in the W hotel or the one on 57th St.

Great Jones Spa has just opened (www.greatjonesspa.com) and I can highly recommend this place.

Ajune, on the Upper East Side, does the best facials in the city (www.ajune.com).

If you have megabucks, I have heard only incredible things about the spa at the new-ish Mandarin Oriental Hotel, off Columbus Circle.

Bliss is great. There is also Soho Sanctuary, Elizabeth Arden and the classic Georgette Klinger (my mother refuses to go anywhere else!). I just read about Great Jones Spa as well and it''s supposed to be great.

I love Oasis on Park Ave., I''ve gotten a couple of great massages there. Haven in Soho is also wonderful.

elepri, those are my two favorite spas! my massage at oasis was particularly relaxing.. bliss might be nice because if she doesn''t want a service, she can use the GC for tons of nice products..

Oasis on Park Avenue is awesome!!! Especially the facials and specialty massages. I go to see Elizabeth for a facial every week! If you want a deep tissue massage or a shiatzu massage I recommend Soho Sanctuary. Hope this helps
