I''m very afraid of getting a bad DJ. The last wedding I went to didn''t annouce anything and it felt really disorganised. I''m clueless of what to ask, to make sure we would be getting a good DJ. Within the next couple of weeks we should come to a decision about the reception site and I''d like to start interviewing DJ''s.

I''d ask for references and also if he has any videos of him working that you could see.

Ask him ''what if'' questions. Imagine your worst dj nightmare and ask what he would do to respond to it. No one is dancing, what do you do? A drunk guest grabs the microphone, what do you do?

We just met with a DJ on Saturday, and he did most of the work for us. He described what his process is for choosing the music (with 100% input and guidance from us), how to get the dancing started, and what sort of MC duties he covers. He also gave us a half dozen demo cds of his style (mixing songs, no dead space, etc) and said we could have more if we wanted to hear more.

From what I learned on Saturday, make sure you like the DJ''s voice and their attitude. We asked him what he wears, to make sure he was "professional" enough for our reception. Also, ask for AND CHECK references from previous weddings your DJ handled.

If your big concern is not getting the announcements you want, you can definitely specify them in your contract. The DJ should be willing to work with you on a timeline and all of the other specifics to make sure he''s doing the right thing.

Good luck!
