I’m a relative noob but I still enjoy PS. I’m just on less this summer due to travel.

Personally, I think that the Ukrainian war has destabilized the global economy. While people are feeling the effects of inflation, they will naturally have less disposable income. I have talked to a few IG sellers and there has definitely been a slow down even on that platform.

I found that certain subforums on PS (Not Hangout) to be nothing but a push for certain vendors. The advice and/or criticism given is often not authentic. Any criticism of a favoured vendor is likely to be met with pitchforks.

I still visit because there's a few people that I'm very fond of but the joy of posting and showing off one's new bling is not really there anymore.

I think you are the person that posted something to the effect that you wanted a "Grand Love" I liked you since then as I too dreamed of the Grand Love. I almost had it--sounded like you have it. I loved the post.

Agree. Derailing even when stating you want no controversy is a big problem here too. After the botox thread yesterday I was going to start a thread about cosmetic procedures to discuss what members have had, results, etc. I even typed it all out, and it was long because I'm vain! I decided against it though due to fear of it being derailed due to vs (and being called out for my shallow vanity lol!). @TooPatient , you aren't the only one typing and not posting lol!

I left ps for a couple of months because of virtue signaling. I checked in yesterday, posted, and once again, my ethics were attacked. Threads in HO often lead to such negativity and judgement that I can hardly stand to read them, much less participate. Debates over almost anything often turn into personal attacks. I even recall a thread about a jewelry auction running awry! I am not particularly thin-skinned either but I think anyone would be upset at their spouse being called a voracious predator because someone here didn't approve of his career. I loved ps at one time and had grown very fond of many members. But in the 6 years I have been here, lots of long time posters seem to have left. The ones that quickly come to mind were also victims of the HO mob. People are so damn mean these days that sticking to Instagram fulfills the jewelry need while avoiding the hornet's nest. I hesitated to post anything but I do think there is validity to my thoughts on how quiet it is.

Just to let you know that LilAlex excoriated Phoenix and I in the investment thread. I had to re-read his comments in his post to you several times. Yes it is safe to say, it was uncalled for. But, I have gotten to know him, as well as one does on an internet forum, and I like him. In his other world, outside of investments, he's kind, smart and caring.

I think that it’s fair to say that you don’t do xyz because you have a specific moral concern. Some may call it virtue signalling, but if it’s done in a respectful way then it doesn’t bother me.

But that doesn’t seem to happen here. People jump to extremes. The language used is very judgmental. What could be a constructive conversation devolves into thinly veiled insults. There’s no reason for it.

I find it validating that people have felt the same way I have at times. I’m not a long time member but I’m not new either (been on since 2016) and some members have not been very welcoming to newer people. I’ve also witnessed several members be eviscerated over differences of opinion whether it be on a political/ world issue or a poor experience with a beloved vendor. However, as a whole, I’ve learned A LOT from this forum and I do miss the busyness of Rockytalk and SMTB where I learned so much about the science and intricacies of settings and diamonds. There’s also been numerous long time members who have been helpful with my posts and kind. I think forums are the same we experience in a community. Some members we click with more than others.

I’m tired of it. I reported what was continuing to happen (after 2 years of it happening) in an attempt to hopefully make it stop. When a moderator comes back and tells you they figured out how this person was doing this, they know it was intentional, and they apologized for you being harrassed, it doesn’t make you feel very safe here.

I got a taste of what a kid who is bullied on the internet feels like and let me tell you, it feels horrible. I don’t know how a child would handle it emotionally. An adult realizes this isn’t a good person but it doesnt make it feel any less painful.

Oh my @Calliecake. That is awful! You are one of the kindest people on here! You show support for so many people. I am sorry that someone has harassed/bullied you. I guess some people never grow out of the mean girl mentality. I hate to sound like one of "those people" but I have a lot of pity for women who bully other women. There is something wrong inside someone who bullies; they lack fulfillment and are often envious of the person they bully. At least that's what I tell myself about bit#$y women! Keep your head up - you are a beautiful person. And like they say "haters are gonna hate."

I often read posts, think about replying and then don’t. It’s not that I particularly care what a random person on the internet thinks of me, more that I just can’t be bothered dealing with them.

I’ve never met you @Gussie, but I don’t think of you as being vain, in my book, wanting to make the best of oneself isn’t a bad thing, and if other people think so, that’s their problem. I remember the thread and name calling of your DH, it really made me wonder what on earth goes on in peoples minds.

I’m so sorry to hear this @Calliecake, I totally echo Gussie’s thoughts about you, you always have a kind word and are very supportive and certainly don’t deserve any kind of harassment.

The last time I wanted to share bling pics the thread kept being invaded by derailers and when I politely asked them to go away to another thread that was already discussing the serious topic I was accused of “thought control”. Everytime I feel like posting now I think of that thread and then no longer feel like posting. At the end of the day my life is stressful enough irl without needing any sort of online drama.

I’ve been on the receiving end of the judgment. The thing is, it’s the internet, people will take bits of what you say and formulate their own opinions. I guess the best approach is to take comments with a grain of salt. I probably won’t be making any non jewelry related threads going forward to avoid all that. I type a lot of posts or comments and end up deleting them - probably for a variety of reasons. I'm autistic, so I have a hard time reading tone to begin with. Subtract the nuances of in-person communication and it is exceptionally hard to read tone here. In real life, I just say what pops into my head and I know sometimes it's not "what you're supposed to say," or it's a weird thing to say. Online I feel like I can censor myself a little better, but it probably means not saying much of anything. I like this forum because gemstones and jewelry are one of my favorite things and I don't have anywhere else to discuss them - though sometimes it can feel disappointing when one is excited to talk about something but gets minimal or no engagement.
