Ragdoll "parents" -- this thread''s for you! Brag and post photos here!

Here's my Birman
Yeah, she's not a Raggie but she's a seal Lynx pointed cat with mittens. She's also giving the camera "the Look" here too. A wee bit of feet fur tufts can be seen poking out, with some ear tufts.

Chrono - Birman's and raggies are very similar in personality, so I do not think that you should hold back! I was at a cat show last year and there was the most beautiful birman there, he was such a big boy!

Monarch - You may be able to find a wonderful raggie at a shelter, which will help offset the cost of going to a breeder. Of course, you may have to work with the raggie in the event it has behavioral quirks, but it is so worth it! If you have a good foster parent, this person should tell you the good, the bad and even the ugly so that you and your hubby can make an informed decision. If you are not hung up on a kitten, you can try to find retired cats from breeders. Typically, these cats were either used for breeding or showing or both, but have come to the end of their careers. From what I have seen, ages of these cats range from 2-5.

I know you mentioned you have little room for a litter box, plus you have doggies who may treat themselves to offerings in the litter box. Here is a top entry box, which is supposed to be dog-proof: http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441807400&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302033737&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023690&bmUID=1183652118138&itemNo=7&In=Cat&N=2033737&Ne=2

Lynn - your pictures are so cute, keep them coming!!

AG - That siamese is so beautiful, someone will adopt him! Lynx point cats are so pretty, in just about any breed. Your shelter is very nice!!

Chrono, she is majestic...

When my Birman was younger (and lighter), I would carry her over my shoulder like a baby and she loved it. She also allows me to carry her belly up (like cradling a baby in your arms). She's very pliant and mellow. She even lets me play with her pink feet pads.

I just love all the pics of the raggies here. So gorgeous, I love the markings and matt free fur. I can see that most will end up be HUGE cats by looking at the size of their cat pads.

I am so jealous as I love to play with feety pads ( tufted or not) and I have been sadly kicked and bitten on numerous occasions when this was attempted!

Omie will sometimes let me play with her feet, but it is not often. Only when my bf and I give her her bi-monthly pedicures am I allowed to touch her prized feet!

Mine does this funky thing when I play with her feet pads. She''ll stretch out her feet pads (where all the claws will protude out) when I poke my finger among the pink pads. When I withdraw my finger, the pads "close up" again. I''ve to do this repeatedly to see the pads open up and then close. When she''s tired of the "game", she''ll get up and walk away.

Chrono - your Birman is so beautiful...thanks so much for sharing the pretty picture...she sounds like such a sweetie too!

Omie - I am sure that Siamese boy will get adopted pretty quickly, despite all the adorable tiny kittens competing for attention! Thanks re: the shelter - its a pretty amazing place to volunteer...I''ve learned so much and I feel really lucky to have the opportunity.

Monarch - Omie makes a really good point about rescue Ragdolls. There are purebred cat rescues all over the country, and some of those specialize in particular breeds. You are in SoCal, right? I''m pretty sure there are A LOT of rescues down there. And honestly on the behavioral stuff, getting a kitten from a bad breeder can sometimes be worse because it sometimes won''t have been socialized properly. At least with an adult that has been fostered, as Monnie said, you really know exactly what you are getitng and what all the quirks and potential issues are, which is a huge plus when you''re deciding if that cat would be a good fit for your home.

I know you did not ask for this information, but I am supplying anyway, in case others are curious. Ragdoll Rescue has a great reputation, visit them here: http://www.freewebs.com/ragdollrescue/ (for US site, click here: http://www.freewebs.com/ragdollrescueusa/).

The Purebreed Cat Rescue organization specializes in raggies, persions, himmies, etc. http://purebredcatbreedrescue.org/ragdoll.htm

Ragdoll International is a ragdoll breed club, that also has a rescue service: http://www.ragdollinternational.org/ragrescues.shtml

http://www.ragdollscfa.org/rag_rescue.php

You can always check with local breeders to find out if they have any rescued ragdolls needing homes.

Great websites - thanks Omie. I''m sure those will be helpful for anyone who is looking to rescue and/or learn more about the breed.

Omie,
Good info, thanks! One more suggestion for someone looking for a Raggie - check with local breeders, they sometimes have adult cats that are no longer being bred... they can make WONDERFUL pets!

AmberGretchen - No problem. I learned of these sites a while ago & figure this would be a great opportunity to collectively post them in one spot.

Lynn - Yes, checking with local breeders is also a good idea. Sometimes they will even foster raggies to help out a rescue organization.

Maddie is a Himalayan, not a Ragdoll but she''s SO sweet.

Lynn- I think you''ll agree that every foo foo kitty needs their own orange tabby buddy. (maddie has milo)

OOOH, Maddie is gorgeous! Look at those eyes - stunning!
And Milo is quite handsome, too!

Oooh! Another honorary Raggie!! I had no idea that himmies are being bred with a lynx pattern, very pretty!

Maddie is supposed to be a tortoise shell Himmie, but her coloring is crazy! I would love to have a ragdoll, but we already have 3 cats (1 Himmie and 2 rescues), DH says 3 is his limit! I don't think I've ever met a cat I didn't like.

Sweet Maddie does have foot tufts.

I finally got off my lazy duff and bonded with the new and improved computer. I hope these pics work!!! He sure does love Pacifico!!! This was from Jan. so he is soooo much bigger now.

pacifico leo.JPG

He also loves the dog! He nibbles Rook''s eyes sometimes. Rook just sits there squinting. This is on DD''s bed. She has a no dog policy for her bed so he was being a naughty sneak here.

My baby!!! Does this remind you of Boo, Lynn?

Yes, the cat is in a doll stroller. Yes, the cat is wearing a baby shirt. And, yes, he still loves to be in the stroller. Is that weird???

Here he is in the other doll stroller taken a few months ago. He''s too big for it now, but, he tries to climb in anyway.

Miranda, is he a "lap cat"? Meaning -- will he come to you and jump up in your lap to sleep or rest??? Boo is 100 ways of *SWEET* but (so far, anyway) he is not especially a lap cat, and I am soooooooooo bummed!!! DH says he thinks he may become more of a lap cat as he gets older... cat people, what do you think???! (LIE TO ME!!! PLEASE!
