Randomly found a perfect (to me) transitional cut!

I haven’t gone too far down these ring paths *yet* but I really like these two. I’m looking to do a RHR so I would need to make an adjustment to the one with the halo - my fear is that it looks too much like an engagement ring. The one I originally asked DK to CAD ended up being around 17.5 mm long and I have very short fingers. IMG_4421.jpegIMG_4411.jpeg

I LOOOOVE that first one! The second one is cool but i feel like the diamond is swallowed up by the setting, like it sucked it in LOL. I am CLEARLY in an art deco phase so I loooove the first one LOL Maybe thin out the halo a little since your stone is bigger?

Yellow gold? White gold? Combo?

Yeah I’m on the fence. You know how hard it can be to narrow down your ideas/wants when you have 520,904 of them! I would like to do a bezel this time and maybe do a mix of yellow gold and platinum so I can wear it with more. The halo is a little on the chunky side. Maybe if I bring the gallery down and make it flatter overall?

OMG, yeeeaaahhhh.. thats part of why i am done for a while, i can never make up my mind!!!!!!!!

Those diamonds are a bit chonky in the halo.. if you thin out the halo you may need 3 linear smaller diamonds to fill the space. I really love it! and I love the idea of doing it 2 tone as you know since i always mix my metals!

That looks phenomenal!

When you hop onto the Ritani site and navigate to their lab diamonds there is a filter at the bottom right of the screen. From there you can go straight to advanced filter options and scroll down to the bottom and choose the curly size you’d like to filter by =)2 I’ll attach some screenshots. As far as the proportions, angles, tables and all that jazz…I don’t know what to look for like some of the experts on here!

This was so helpful! I already have multiple options saved and one purchased. Haha

What an interesting cut! The proportions are very consistent with what we would call a later transitional, cut in the 1940s through the 50s. The technology at that time had advanced to allow more precise cutting of the crystal so they really liked to get two stones (one large and one small) from the rough. To do that they started cutting diamonds with larger tables and shallower crowns. But the lower halves are still short (big fat arrows) plus some other features that give it that characteristic checkerboard look. These are pretty rare cuts in natural diamonds bc they lent themselves so well to cutting in the 60-60 style of early MRBs, so many were lost. I wonder who cut it? They must have been experimenting.

Nice find!

Thank you! I love the history lesson, too! Now I have some reading up to do :kiss2:
