Raw Uncut Ruby

I have an approximate 3oz raw uncut ruby. I am wanting to know what I need to do to get it appraised. I don’t even know where to begin to start.

Here is a picture of it. I have had it for about 25 years. Just curious if I have held on to something of value or just for sentimental reasons.

Is it the one on the right or the left?

Maybe shaped like corundum but I think that's as close as anyone is gonna get. Just looks like a rock -- I see no hint of transparency or translucency. Can you transilluminate it at all...?

It is not worth much at all.

I wouldn't really call that a ruby. It's specimen grade dark purple corundum with what may be mica included within. A good example of a typical barrel-shaped corundum crystal though.
