Hi All,

First time poster. I purchased an engagement ring a few days ago. I decided this past weekend that I want to propose this coming weekend and pulled the trigger without doing as much research as I would have liked. I paid a total of 15K for the stone + the setting. They quoted me at 16K initially and didn't counter back when I came in at 15K which was a but unsettling. My soon to be fiancée is going to love it regardless (I think), but I can't stop thinking about if I could have saved a few grand. I accept this is the price to pay for rushing the process.

The setting is 18K white gold with diamonds around

Any thoughts given the info below:

The price seems to be within fair retail range for a 2 carat I SI1 oval, which ranges around $11-17K depending on the seller and grading report results...for just the loose diamond.

As @lovedogs stated: how well you did depends on a variety of factors that apply to your particular diamond. :)

I appreciate the replies. This makes me feel better. Last night went great and she’s thrilled with it. For my first diamond purchase ever, I’m pleased with the way it looks. I know nothing about the correct way to photograph diamonds, but I’m going to share a few pics just because.

note: those are my hairy fingers, not hers. :)

Agree with the statements above from @lovedogs and @DejaWiz, a quick search on James Allen for a diamond with those specs (I color, si1, 2.01 carat) shows a range between $11000 - $16 000 for the diamond alone. So, based on your particular stone and the limited knowledge we have, it's likely fair price given the price you paid includes the setting.

Congrats!

Cant tell much from the pictures but it looks pretty! Congratulations on your engagement!!!

Could you have paid less? Possibly, but not that much less that you'd kick yourself and you sure would have had to have done the hard yard finding the right stone and getting the setting right. If your fiancee is happy then I think you did well and wouldn't lose sleep over it. Congrats!
