I''m planning on getting engaged and spending $40 - $50k on the ring...and having my fiance help pick out her own ring. I plan on getting my girlfriend a ring to use during the proposal, which will be an early b-day present as well. I''d like to spend approx. $500.

Does anyone have any recommendation for nice, unique, precious or semi-precious stones and settings?

Thanks.

You might consider getting her a solitaire with her birthstone in it or I've also seen a pearl ring used as an engagement ring. I'm a fan of QVC.com and I'm sure that you could find something within your budget that would do just fine for a temp engagment ring.
You might also consider usind a cz stone for the temp ring.

Good luck with your search.

These LINK look lots of fun and the model comes with a serious tradition attached (celebrity and royal weddings, around 1750) to boot.

Depending on the level of detail, these rings can be very nice - the one down the link looks reasonably authentic, but I would love better carving really.

It was an unusualy intricate piece recently auctioned (LINK) that reminded me of the good ol' idea.
