I thought I''d post a few of my recent (sort of) gemstone purchases. They are:

blue-green tourmaline from Art Cut Gems
.90 carat pink tourmaline from Dan Stair
1.09 Grossular Garnet from Dan Stair

Here''s one setting idea for the blue green tourmaline. It''s a little on the light side, so I am thinking of getting a different setting that would close it in more and darken it up a little. Any thoughts?

Here''s a pic of the pink tourmaline alone. This doesn''t do a great job of showing the color, it''s a very true candy pink.

Here''s the pink tourmaline in it''s setting, this is a better representation of the color.

Here the grossular garnet, it appears a little lighter than this in real life.

I am having a lot of trouble deciding how to set the grossular garnet. Itt is a super sparkly little stone (despite my terrible pictures). However, it is very light. I originally planned to set it in white gold. but I think it looks a little washed out. Any ideas for how to best highlight the color?

I really like the green tourmaline in that setting. It''s very pretty.

Love the pink toumaline, but I''m a bit partial to pink colors. The setting is lovely as well.

Does it have a bit of green in it?

Mochi,

No, no green at all in real life. Just a very light lemon yellow. My pictures are awful at capturing the color and I just got a new camera, so it must be me. Here''s dan''s picture of the stone, which is a much more accurate representation of the color, although it is a tad lighter.

Oh no, it''s not you. Some colored gems are just had to capture with a camera.

I''m wondering if wg wouldn''t wash out the grossular?

Yeah, it does look a little washed out in white gold. But it''s also such a pale yellow, I am not sure how I''d like it in yellow gold either.

If you don''t mind me asking, where did you get the first setting? It''s gorgeous!

Looks like a LOGR setting.

I''d do 18K yellow gold for that stone. Preferably a bezel.

I second TL!

Yellow gold all the way!

I like that garnet but I can see how you''d have trouble figuring out what to set it in. Maybe putting it in a bezel would darken it? Then I''d say YG.

It is indeed an LOGR setting. I hadn''t seen it before and got it for a good price. I am very pleased with the quality of the setting (I have ordered several from LOGR, two have gone back and I have kept 4). The quality of this one is terrific. Nice size diamonds and very white. Also, I never upgrade the stones on LOGR in case you are wondering.

Ok, I don''t really have a lot of yellow gold, so I am going to take my stone to a jlocal eweler this weekend and see how I like the stone in yellow gold. I''ll probably look to do a halo or sidestones of some sort, since the stone is only 6.5mm and that''s a little small for me for a RHR on its own.

I am also expecting 2 more goodies from Barry and one from Dan hopefully today or tomorrow, so I''ll be posting those soon too!

Ah, there is the grossular. Thanks November.

It''s great. Drop it into some yellow gold settings and see what you (and we) think.

I bet in person it looks like a colored diamond. Love those garnets.
