Yikes. There is not such a big wedding business in Germany like there is in the USA.

FI and I are going to Heidelberg, our destination for our destination wedding, and ask we tried to set appts with reception venues (We just want a GREAT meal and drinks in a beautiful place) but I am sure I am missing a lot. It is a restaurant, so clearly linens and dishes are included, but what questions do I need to ask to get accurate pricing?

Clear choices are menu prices (we want menus red meat, fish, veggie, or childrens)

Open bar doesnt exist here, so I suppose we should ask for a fixed price for a set amount of alchohol per course or a wine menu with each course.

WHAT ELSE??

All suggestions are welcomed!

It may cost more, but make sure you are getting a room to yourself. It is common in Germany to fill tables and rooms, even with perfect strangers, so make sure they know you want an area to yourself, which may cost more.

Generally at bars in Germany, they bring you a drink as soon as the old one is finished unless you specifically stop them, so that might be important.

Find out about them making the cake or if they will let you bring your own.

Also find out about courses of meals. I cant'' remember how it is done in Germany, but it isn''t like the US.

Sodas, like coke, have less variety and are generally far more expensive than in the US. I know I drank cheap wine because it was cheaper. Same with fruit juice.

That''s all I can think of at the moment.

I''ll find one of my venue check-lists at work tomorrow for you and post the details, that should cover most of the things you will need to find out about.

Great points Brazen! The soda prices are just SHOCKING! That also made me think about the bottled water issue. Americans love to have water and we are used to tap or filtered. Perhaps I can persuade in that direction without too many ugly looks from the staff. Added to my list about the separate room too. Thanks for your help.

Looking forward to your list Pandora! Thanks in advance!
