My SO and I will be touring our prospective reception venues next week for our October 08 wedding. It may be the last chance we have to visit my parents'' hometown this year, so we wanted to go ahead and tour/book if possible!
We are looking for a Saturday evening reception at one of 2 large hotel ballrooms. There will be 200-250 guests (I would guess 225 to be safe), most of whom will be travelling from out of town (at least 1/3 of whom will be travelling out of the country to be there) so a hotel location seemed like the best option for us.
Care to share any insight as to what to expect and questions to ask of both venues? Have you been to any big hotel receptions and do you have horror stories/ things that could have been avoided with better planning?
Some of the things I''ve thought of to ask are:
- NO tip jars -- we will handle tips afterwards
- Waiters with trays of wine/champagne greeting guests upon arrival - avoiding lines at the bar
Exactly how negotiable are things like free room for couple and parents? Any other "extras" you''ve had success in negotiating?
Anyhow, next week should be loads of planning fun -- we''re touring the potential reception venues, the potential rehearsal dinner venue, and we''re meeting with the photographer we love.
