I''ve seen someone described a stone as ''Red Sapphire/Ruby''.

Can Red Sapphire be different from Ruby? And, if so, why?

Most of the red sapphire are songea diffusion treated sapphires.

Do a search, I rem there was a very interesting topic on rubies/red sapphires and pink sapphires with lotsa contribution by the experts around.

Cheers
Ryan

Cave Keeper,

Sapphire is all part of the same group classed as corundum. One of the main distictions between Sapphire and Ruby is, Ruby is RED and sapphire is every other color.

It may just not be ''red enough'' or it could be color treated or both. I don''t think anyone would call ''red sapphire'' a piece that could be called ''ruby''.

For a good fun intro into the ruby/sapphire debate look for an article called ''Walking the line...'' at ruby-sapphire.com If you have not tried the site or the related book already (lucky you, then!), now it is time
