Greetings all!

I am just beginning to research a project to set 3 oval red spinel from Brad.

The spinel are not large( 6.5x5 and 4.5x3-pair) and I wear a size seven so am thinking a 5 or 7 stone ring. I am strongly considering using a pair(5.5x4) of cushion cut diamonds in between the spinel. The largest spinel is more roval than elongated oval and think the shape of the cushions will work well.

What I was wondering was if anyone had any pics of 5 or 7 stone oval settings that are a little different than the norm? Thanks
Trying to post a picture, but computer is not cooperating!

This is the largest of the 3 spinel 0.82ct, small but I love the color :)

Just wanted to say that they color looks great.

I love this idea. Old cuts?

Any chance of a photograph of all 3 stones together? This way, I can cut and paste various shapes and sizes of diamonds, while making sure the proportions all work together.

I absolutely agree with breaking up the Spinel with cushion cut diamonds. Three red Spinel in a row would be too much.

Different colour (pink vs red) and shape (cushion and round vs oval) but the premise is the same. I hope I am allowed to share this because this is her personal item, not meant for sale or as a form of self promotion.

Thanks so much, I only wish it were larger :)

Yes and no-they are new but chunky faceted cushions and I in color. I actually love them, they are currently set as studs-i will miss them, but time for something larger for everyday!

I've been working on it, but the diamonds are set as studs currently and the spinel pair are tiny and have been tough to handle-I need to get something like clay to put the stones in so they stay upright and don't roll away!

For sure- I would never set the 3 alone together, the proportions are way off also :)

Thanks for sharing, I had forgotten about this lovely of Freke's-love the pink, yum!!!

Put the three spinels in a gem box together and place the cushions next to the case, and photograph them together. From there, I can cut and paste and rearrange them to see how it'll look as a 5 stone ring.

Sorry for the individual responses-I hate not being at a computer!

I was originally only thinking about a band ring with these stones, but am now considering something a little different-maybe something flowery.

The spinel are currently together in a gem box, so will work on a photo today :)

I have had so many issues posting pictures, never used to have that issue-argh :)

Not sure why the photos are getting smaller when I post them either-sorry!

Yes, white diamonds will break up yet join them together nicely. Looking forward to seeing the cushion diamond pictures.

This is a close up of one of the cushions, it is set in the stud next to the gem box in the 1st photo I posted today. A little more squared off edges than the rovals, but with the prongs, I am not sure it would bother me.

Argh, I cannot cut and paste properly because I suck with MS Paint. :angryfire: Niel and a few others are so much better at this. I hope they'll see your thread and help.

No worries Chrono! To my eye with the stones being small, the slight difference in shape is not bothersome and looks quit nice together. I think my main issue is that I would like something a little different than a regular 5 stone prong set band, some sort of a twist would be great.

They look so red even in a photo of them behind the glass/plastic of the gem case. Ughh, I love them.

I think that no matter what, a 5 stone will look the same face up but can look different from the side view, depending on the style (trellis, basket, U, cutouts, etc).

I generally take Chrono's word in most things but I was convinced there had to be other options for 5-stone settings. So all in good fun, I went on a search. Found some interesting antiquey and modern looks. Not advocating for any of these vendors, stones, or settings, but maybe can spark some inspiration. The spinels are gorgeous, btw!!

Thanks-I really wish they were larger! I have had the spinel pair for some time and was excited to see that they coordinated so well with the new roval.

I just need to make up my mind on which direction I would like to go with for setting them-I keep changing my mind :)

Use the "crop" function. That's why all my gem photos make the gem look enormous. LOL!

MS Paint is the only photo editor I use.
