No it''s not insured. That is due to my inexperience with registered mail.

I just hope it''s not gone forever.

ETA: sorry for the typos.... but this is one of 2 situations involving theft with the USPS system in the last year!!! I did get my claim the first time it happened and the item was insured, but not registered??? From now on, I will never trust USPS with any item of value!.... oh, they also broke a gift that I sent to my mom! Same agent helped me wrap it.............she is just WORTHLESS! Doesn''t even matter when the words FRAGILE are stamped all over the box!! o.k... I am done ranting........I think!

may i ask how much was the package insured for?

I had a problem once when I sent a diamond to Whiteflash a few years ago. It took three weeks for it to arrive at their offices, even though it only took a day for it to get to Houston. I was just glad it wasn''t lost, but it still p!ssed me off. Still, I think it is the safest way to send it, since it is *supposed* to be signed and accounted for at all times.

Just got off the phone with another USPS office--here in ABQ, but this one was from my zip code instead of where I mailed it from. He looked up the package and this is what he told me:

2 packages were put together in a "firm" which means that they can be delivered together, so they don't both have to be scanned. Just the one "firm" number has to be. BUT the number for mine wasn't scanned in as delivered--I'm not sure exactly how that works, but whatever. The other one was scanned in as delivered. Soooo....

The guy told me to have the recipient start talking about the Postal Inspectors, and see if that will light a fire under someone (seriously, he told me that). He also said that I need to look into the automatic insurance that comes with registered mail. So I need to look into that for sure.

Right now, I'm going through some mixed emotions. I just want it somewhere safe--either with me or with the recipient, but it may be time for me to start looking into those things and figuring out where to go from here if they don't find it tomorrow.

I am never mailing anything more important than a letter through USPS again. Seriously.

ETA: Thanks for the wishes and stories (good and bad). I hope that no one ever has to goes through what I've gone through.

This whole thing really sucks. I''m sorry it''s taking such a ridiculous amount of time to fix, Freke. I feel like the recipient isn''t doing enough, though - they should be at USPS raising hell if they want to keep your business. It''s their job, since you aren''t there to do it yourself.

$500...which is the amount the recipient sent me through Paypal.

Freke... it sounds like someone is at least going the distance for you! Hang onto them for dear life!! Not one person went out of their way for me..... I surmise that once a package crosses the border, insured, registered, or whatever, no one is going to do a thorough investigation. I whole heartedly agree with you... letters only through the USPS system. Too many thieves........ It sucks because we choose USPS for the cost savings on valuable items compared to UPS or Fedex.........but better safe than sorry. There is no guarantees with them either..........but at least they are not the federal government. I don't know about you all, but I am not thrilled with the federal government right now................... seems like they don't have to answer to anyone!! At least a company/business will go the distance to make a consumer happy. The federal government could care less...(except maybe in your case!) even if you have spent a ton of money with them!!!

So far, they are not even going to budge on that..........what adds insult to injury, I paid for insurance.............!! How can they not follow through? The government is just as shady as the insurance companies!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can''t tell you how much sleep I have lost over this. I sold these earrings not wanting to sell them...but I wanted to have a nice Christmas for my family! I would have been better off keeping them! They were absolutely stunning!

Sorry this has become such a nightmare, Freke. It sounds like you''ve found some people to help advocate for you though, which is soo importnat!

This is so sad! I am so sorry you have to go through this... I can even begin to imagine the stress and sadness.
I hope that your package is found safe and sound.

I know you need some dust:

WHAT???? THIS SOUNDS LIKE CRAP TO ME....how can they not be scanned individually??? What is the point of sending Registered Mail if it isn''t going to be tracked each step of the way??? Call the Postal Inspectors NOW!!!!

The recipient needs to do some investigating, too, IMO! Don''t give up Liz!!! Where is the package that was delivered and scanned??? That''s what needs to be answered ASAP.....

seriously.... why even have a bar code/tracking number?

It was delivered to the wrong suite. They are going to go take the proof (it was signed for) to the suite it was delivered to, and try to get to the bottom of this. I''m kind of feeling bad for the recipient. She wanted to know what suite it was, and they wouldn''t tell her. I''m guessing she was going to go there herself. So we''re waiting to see what happens...

Fingers crossed.

Me too!!!!

I'm still confused but it sounds like it was delivered but not to the correct location and person?

Gee, I agree with the others that what is the point of the bar code and tracking if it isn't used.

I think it''s been found. OMG. I haven''t gotten confirmation from the recipient yet, so I''m waiting for that, but I THINK IT''S GOING TO BE OK.

Fingers are still crossed though.

That''s great new! I hope you get final confirmation soon.

ME TOO. SERIOUSLY.

Yay! Delivered to the wrong address makes more sense...it had to be signed for, so I couldn''t figure out how it could have been totally lost. Hopefully you''ll get good news tomorrow!

(It looks like from the USPS site that as long as you declare a value, the insurance is included. So it might have been covered anyway, hopefully.)

That''s great! I hope they did in fact find it. But I don''t understand this whole thread. What''s the point of paying for insurance if you can''t get the money back if something is never found? I have sent two stones recently to different places and worried each time. But I thought if they got lost, I could at least collect on them.
