The USPS guy on my end isn''t in the office right now, but he''ll be back in a bit. He''s my link in all of this. Would it be inappropriate to buy him a gift card to a nice restaurant when this is all over?
Great idea whitby. Freke, oh my oh my has this been an ordeal or what??? I feel for you, big time!!!!!Date: 6/5/2009 6:13:18 PM

freke, maybe even better than a gift voucher would be a letter to his supervisor, CC''ing the manager of his region.
come promotion time, this sort of thing is worth its weight in gold.
I would TOTALLY file a police report IF I felt like it would do anything, but more importantly IF I KNEW WHO HAS THE STUPID THING. Although I think the if we knew, the recipient would probably go over there and kick some booty.Date: 6/5/2009 6:11:47 PM

Ok maybe I''m really stupid, but can''t you just file a police report? Oh wait, I understand, it''s because you don''t know who STOLE it from you. If I understand right, it was delivered to the wrong suite, and the dishonest people there signed for it and took it, even if it wasn''t for them. And now they won''t give it back. Aren''t people afraid of the type of karma they are attracting??? Jeez. I hope everything works out for you. Keep us posted.

Apparently the Postal Inspectors are essentially police, with powers to arrest them and everything.
Now I'm just terrified that they will have opened it, and will replace my stone with something crappy.
I had the most horrible exerience with registered mail. I returned a product, and it took about 8 months for the package to get delivered. I had to call the postmaster everyday for a month at 5 a.m. (For some reason, the postmaster worked from 5 a.m.-2 p.m. and unless you called first thing in the morning, you could never speak to her.)The postmaster would always be busy and never return my call. For some reason, they had no idea where the package was even though it had a tracking number. So, I finally sent an e-mail threatening to sue, b/c it had been so long and they wouldn't reimburse me even though it was insured. After harassing them for a month at 5 a.m., the package miraculously showed up at the recipient's address. Fortunately for me, the vendor still gave me a refund even though it had been so long. So, now I just pay more and use UPS or Fed Ex if I need to send something important.Date: 5/29/2009 2:57:55 PM

Has it worked for you? Have you had bad experiences? Would you do it again?
UPS left a $12K package at my front door.Date: 6/6/2009 12:00:14 AM

You know what''s sad? It would have been cheaper to send it via FedEx or UPS.

Freke: There just aren''t enoughemoties to cover this situation!
Not sure if this has already been addressed, but you do have insurance by virtue of having sent the package by registered mail. From the USPS website:
Registered Mail provides the maximum security.
When you''re sending valuable or irreplacable items through the mail, protect them with Registered Mail.
Items you sent with Registered Mail are placed under tight security from the point of mailing to the point of delivery, and insured up to $25,000 against loss or damage. And you can verify the date and time of delivery and the delivery attempts online.

Thats what I posted a few pages back that the package will be automatically insured, so even if it doesn''t turn up Freke should get reimbursed.

Part of me wonders if the person delivering it took it and only says that s/he delivered it--that would explain why they won''t divulge who took it. Is that completely paranoid?
