I know there''s another registry thread (or a couple?) already but I just have a question.

I know that some stores let you get cash back if you return an item. I''m not sure if the stores that we''ve registered at have that policy or not (we registered at Macy''s and Crate & Barrel). It wasn''t something that were planning on looking into -- we just chose stores we liked and ones we thought were convenient for guests.

What do you think of returning a gift so you can get cash back? I don''t think I really have strong opinions about this one way or the other, just for the record.

Given the "taste" of my future family, I think it is a nessesity and it is the main reason I am registering at BBB and not Target which has a terrible return policy.

The only place I know of that will give you cash is Bed Bath and Beyond. Every other place will do a merchandise credit. Honestly, BBB was our easiest to use registry, and ironically I only returned a very few things there because it was so well updated. I also did a few returns at C&B which was VERY easy and Macy''s which was rather difficult. The clerk wasn''t sure how he could return something without a receipt and I said "it was a GIFT! how would I have a receipt?" Finally he made it happen but not without stalling for 20 minutes.

I agree that the only one i have heard of giving cash back is BBB.

As for target, i think their return policy is similar to everyone elses. They are just sticklers for receipts. Though if the person bought the item from the registry list, and it was scanned properly at checkout and all, you can return the item using your registry as the receipt.

I believe Target changed their policy and will no longer let you return things using your registry. At least that is how it is with their baby registries

I personally would not register for gifts with the intention of returning them for cash if that''s what you are asking. That''s just me though.

We did get several duplicate gifts from BB&B, and we did return those gifts. We had the intention of exchanging them, but the store we returned our items to gave cash rather than issuing store credit. It is really an easy policy to work with because you can spend the cash in store, and if there''s any amount left over, you can simply take it and save it until there is something else you want and not worry about the store credit depreciating.

It''s the same with their wedding registries also... you can only return 2 items per year per drivers license without a reciept and they both have to be under $20 each. I really dislike the new policy. It applies to everyone too, not just registries.

Yes, I think it is a *horrible* policy and this is why I ALWAYS include a gift receipt. Perhaps people will STOP registering with them and they will lighten up their policies.
