Hi All

Mrs Manks-to-be''s E-ring. Its a solitaire with a 1.11 cwt stone, and a narrow band. Trouble is, her fingers are very skinny and her knuckles are the widest part of her fingers. The problem - her ring will simply not stay pointing upwards.

The problem is so bad that when her hands are cold, I can quite litterally spin the ring on her finger! We have checked whether she could manage a half size smaller, but it would not clear her knuckle. Even if she could, I think her fingers are about a size to size and a half smaller than her knuckles.

Someone on another site suggested sizing beads. However, I did not really understand how these work.

So, does anyone either have a good idea here or could they post a picture of sizing beads please.

Any help greatly appreciated.

They mention two other methods I've never heard of. I have a small bar that looks like the one in the foldover device method but it's just soldered to the inside of the shank. Be aware that sizing beads are not terribly comfortable. They take some time to get used to. I've had both and the bar is far more comfortable. Also, a thin band will always have some spin if your knuckles are the widest part of your finger.

They do make rings with hinges for knuckle issues...see pic below and try this link:

Or, do a Yahoo! on "hinged rings" I do not have personal experience with these but the couple of women I know who have them love them. Good luck.

I have heard these are great from a number of different people and comfortable as well. I don't know anything about the site or product from the link I've left above, but it will give you some idea how this problem is resolved. ~song

Thanks guys

The solutions sound a little fiddly and I am not sure that a local jeweller could / would do this work. Maybe I should consider having her knuckle reduced.

try these. cheap and effective.

By the way, most jewelers have no problem at all installing the expandable ring shanks. Also try Lockshank.com. Read about it a bit. I can't wait to have this installed on my ring! IMO, it looks really kludgy messing up a nice platinum or gold ring with a piece of plastic.

Revised to add: plastic guards as advised on other similar posts in the past.

Here's a thing.

Jane usually puts on hand cream overnight. This week, she has been putting on hand cream in the morning and the spin has improved a great deal. I presume that the cream swells the skin on her fingers a little.

I will still look into these other solutions though.

I have the same issues as the soon-to-be Mrs. Manks. I have big knuckles (once they perfect the knuckle reduction surgery, I am so there), and my fingers are larger in the summer than winter. I have sizing balls in my ring- they are basically just little beads of metal soldered to the inner part of the shank. They allow the ring to slip over the super-knuckle, but then take up some space to keep the ring from spinning once it is in place. When my finger swells in the summer the ring still fits well.

They did feel funny for the first week or so, but now I don't even notice them. If she tries them and doesn't like them, she can always have them removed, no harm done to the ring.

Has anyone tried "Ring Guard Solution" sold by the Luc-Co, Inc. I just ordered it, I hope it works. My knuckles are swollen and cracked from slipping (yanking) my rings on and off. Looks promising.
