It''s Sunday night. Tomorrow I get the CADS. yay!
I''m not enduring this wait very well. I think for me, it would be easier if it was a surprise from DH, but because I am intimately involved in every detail, I''m having a harder time of it.
KOOL thing though: Jeff White is mailing the original cert from SriLanka, as well as his cad/facet plotting diagram. woo hooo it''s like getting the birth certificate for a child I''m adopting!
LS
Are these the star sapphires you''re remaking from your grandmothers ring and 2 earrings??? Or am I confusing this project with someone else? Do tell!Date: 8/3/2008 8:55:57 PM

I get my Star Sapphires tomorrow! I figured out what happened with my ER though - they sized it for my right hand, rather then my left. Oh well. I''m going to wear my sapphire while they size the ER, LOL.
I can''t wait to see your CADs!
Nope, you''re right.Date: 8/3/2008 9:04:06 PM

Nope, you're right. My grammy's star sapphires have been updated. I can't wait to see them!
I want your opinion on something else too - my ER has slightly asymettrical prongs. I can't decide if it's going to bug me, or if it makes the ring more endearing. I mean, it's the symbol of my marriage, and my marriage is quirky and off-kilter too, LOL!
You are correct, on all counts.Date: 8/3/2008 9:29:16 PM

Is it because of how each prong swoops up from the band, and there''s a tiny bit of byass action going on? Is that what you mean? (If I''m mistaken, pls say so: I''m working with my old glasses this weekend and the squinting isn''t helping)
If so, I doubt theres'' anything you can do about that, it''s an intrinsic part of the design. And that makes it even more special. But I can see why you wouldn''t want to wear another band with it, it kind of ''throws it off''.
LS
this?ETA: OK I looked again. Do you mean because the prongs aren''t perfectly evenly spaced, like there are 3 on top and 3 on the bottom, but the space between top and bottom isn''t the same as the space between the others? (GWIM?)
It''s really hard to see in the pics, but one of the NS prongs is slightly to the left. It bugged me for about 2 hours, and then it started to grow on me, LOL.Date: 8/3/2008 9:32:29 PM

So this is the photo where I think I see what you mean (*nose almost stuck onto the monitor* at this point!).
I think it''s perfectly fine. It totally suits the setting and really shows off your stone.
But it might take some getting used to because we''re so used to *micro-calibrated* design work on this forum. So many RB''s are set in perfectly aligned 4 and 6 prongs.
Your ring is much more fluid and organic than most others.....remember how in nature no 2 snowflakes are the same, or leaves on a tree are somewhat dissimilar? When you have such an organic setting (and it''s FAB by the way), your eye isn''t used to seeing that in a jewelry setting.

HA I hadn''t even noticed that! And I was looking really, really hard!
It wouldn''t bother me, but I''m not wearing it, you are. Perhaps when you return it for resizing you can ask them if they can do a slight adjustment. My only concern is that they don''t muck up the profile by doing that. If that is a risk, leave it alone.
Sorry, now I KNOW my eyesight is getting really bad! old age and all that..............

Like I said, it bugged me when I was first looking at it. In that initial scrutinizing the ring period. But now - I don''t notice it unless I look for it. And I am concerned that it would muck up the profile. I''m taking it in to be sized tomorrow, and I''ll mention it, but I''m not going to worry about it if they can''t fix it. With the $ I got trading in some old pieces from ex boyfriends, the entire reset cost less than $200..... I''m not going to be insanely picky, LOL!
No kidding! But dontcha think it''s the ultimate revenge to recycle it for your reset ER? (that''s correct, no?).Date: 8/3/2008 9:50:51 PM

I was so excited, LOL. It really was recycling at its finest! One necklace was worth $76 just by itself. Sure beats it sitting there gathering dust in my jewelry box!
Hee hee. The best part is - we still hang out with this ex all the time, LOL! He was actually at our wedding.Date: 8/3/2008 9:52:21 PM

Go, Dani! Good for you for recycling those old pieces!
Ya know, I just recently sold all of the jewelry that was ever given to me by an ex-boyfriend or my XH. It was VERY liberating!
I do still have the diamond from the e-ring my XH gave me, and my old diamond studs that were also a gift from my XH. I recently listed them on CraigsList . . . here''s hoping they sell soon!
