Rose cut studs?

I have been thinking about jewelry purchase(s) for 2021 that I want to start saving for. I really want a pair of diamond studs, as I am still building out my jewelry classics wardrobe.

I am not a very flashy girl. Jeans + t-shirt + leather lace up boots are daily wardrobe. I like simple, bezels, not into heaps of sparkle or decoration. I love admiring it on others - but not for me. My OEC 3-stone is about as much "ka-pow" as I ever plan to own, and don't want anything to compete at all.

I want to own rose cuts somewhere in my collection - I thought, why not my studs? A bit more understated - shimmer instead of sparkle....I have never seen them in person. Has anyone ever gotten rose cut diamond studs in lieu of a more sparkly counterpart? Are you glad you did? Do you regret it?

What else should I look out for, for rose cuts? Are there particular vendors that you'd recommend?

These are two styles that have stood out to me - I expect my budget will be ~2k, shooting for ~5mm.

Oh shoot - I meant to post this in Rocky Talky...

IMHO rose-cut studs earrings would be more beautiful on the hand, than on the ear ... unless perhaps you have very very short hair or wear your hair in a style which exposes the ear 100%, I don't think enough light would reach the rose-cut to get any performance from them ... but maybe that's exactly what you want?

I have small rose cut studs (diamonds are about 4 mm) and they’re underwhelming. I think they’d look much better in a dangle style earring. I plan on resetting them in the future but am undecided how I will use them. I should add that I have a small rose cut pendant as well. That catches the light much better and is quite pretty.

I have a rose cut ring that I seldom wear now because it gets dirty way too quickly and requires constant cleaning. I think as studs it might need to be cleaned more too. I agree with others suggesting a dangle style.

They look pretty in concept. On the ear, as a stud, they will collect a lot of grime and gunk, and you will probably lose what it is that is attractive about them. I am a rose cut fan as well and own a larger oval rose cut in a ring, drop earrings, etc. I would not put them in a stud.

This is really helpful, and I wondered why I hardly was able to find them, even in photos. I wonder if a dangle might be better down the road...I definitely want studs for my first pair, but dangles might be lovely...

I was wondering if studs tended to collect grime more than rings, as I’ve hardly worn studs but like the appearance

I think I think for your budget there are some options at OWD - maybe OEC studs?

Studs collect heaps of grime and gunk as they don't get taken off and cleaned as regularly or often as rings - plus you don't see it when they get dirty lol.

I wear Kataoka rose cut earrings daily. I clean my earrings every other day so they look fine to me. The style I have is made with two rose cuts stacked, so they’re not see-through.

I also have antique foiled dangles. I don’t wear these as much.

They’re very pretty, but for me they would be more occasional wear studs rather than everyday wear studs - especially because of issues with cleaning. You’ll also have to check with the jeweler how to clean them because foiled rose cuts can’t be cleaned the same way as other diamond jewelry.

These are stunning! Both pairs. I do clean my e-ring every other day as well...you’ve given me some food for thought! Stacking rose cuts is brilliant. Now I’m drawn to the idea of at least rosie dangles!

Definitely excellent point - I know Dolly does a “faux foil” that allows for easy cleaning, which is nice. But not something I want going dull constantly...

I think I may go in that direction- I will hem and haw over this for a while before I pull the trigger - but it sounds like rose cuts aren’t ideal for the style earrings I’m looking for, and I also love OECs!

I'd love to see pictures if you have any!

Here you go. They're 4 mm in a yellow gold martini setting. I think they're such pretty little stones but the setting doesn't do them justice. They mainly look transparent when worn but do shimmer in the right lighting.

It would be a no for me.

They are really lovely - but I see what you mean. They are lovely stones - may I ask where you got them from? I might just source stones make dangles!

Thanks so much for sharing!

I bought the stones from Ivy & Rose.
