Rose gold ring, but metal is white where it meets diamonds

I just received a garnet ring.

If you look closely in this photo, you can see that the metal goes from rose gold to white when it reaches the little diamonds. What's going on here? Do you think it was dipped in white gold or is it something else?

I'd get its rhodium plated around the stones.
