Hello
Chris Auletta is cutting me an asscher from his Rose De France rough amethyst (the top stones in hte picture). Rough is 20carat and he is expecting approx 5ct once cut. Im excited as this is my birthstone and will be a right hand ring. Will update when I get pics along the way!

Yay! How exciting for you! I am looking forward to follow this process and admire the end result.

I did not know Chris is now a lapidary. Good luck and keep us posted.

Looking forward to the finished stone and ring.

Amethyst is my birthstone too, so a belated happy birthday!

DK :))

Thanks! Sorry to be unclear - Chris is handling the process (his rough but he has a cutter he works with who will be creating the final product). Should be a few weeks he thinks and hoping to get some pics if possible).

Hi all!

I saw this post and wanted to mention that I don't do any faceting myself. I work with some fine lapidaries but I am not one of them, lol.

I have cut one stone so that I could experience it, appreciate fully what goes into a precision-cut, but it isn't something I'd want to do regularly.

For laughs, here's the 1.34ct Old Mine Cut Rhodolite I did. I gave it to my Mother for her birthday-its her birthstone.

Ella-that stone is NOT for sale

How exciting Lauren! I look forward to seeing your ammy!

Chris - I think you did a great job on the garnet! I'm pretty sure that I'd end up snapping the stone in half if I had a go!

You did a great job in cutting this Rhodolite Chris. You could add this to your career any time and have a lot of fans.

I like your garnet too. Nice high crown.

Ok I have some updates pictures of the progress so far. Chris expects its to be 10.5mm and said the colour in pics isn't a worry as it's not finished yet. I should have more pics in a day or two!

I love these progress pics! Thanks for sharing and happy waiting.

and it's done!!! Came in at 6.75carat and looks gorgeous. Now I have to decide how to set it - any suggestions?

Very bright and nice; you can just about set it however you like due to this with the only limitation being the depth.

That is very nice!! Beautiful :) I would set it in a simple setting since it's a large stone, and just it take center stage.

Gorgeous!!

What a gorgeous outcome! I love the 'simple with oomph' setting that David Klass made for Sparkliesluver.

It's beautiful and huge!! Looking forward to seeing how you set it!

Acinom that's a fab setting! I am toying with sidestones but think honestly it's overkill. What do you all think of rose gold for the setting? Would this clash with yhe lavender stone or be great? I don't want to spend a fortune on this setting but wondered who can suggest a great jeweller or even a semi mount I might find to fit?

I've seen amethyst set in rose gold and it looks divine!

Very nice stone, thanks for sharing!

Have fun with deciding the setting.

DK

Not sure about the RG because of the divine pastel color of your stone. But I would ask a jeweller to place the stone near different metal types for you to choose from. Also, there is a dramatic difference between 14K and 20K RG in terms of color. One of the two will surely work!

I would definitely ask David Klass for a quote if you go the custom route. His prices are very very reasonable.

That's the perfect light color for a step cut. I love it.
