I have been playing around with the idea of setting my round orangish pink spinel with a pair of M colored cushion sides in this setting. The spinel is 6mm and the sides are a little under 5 mm each. I was originally planning on setting the sides with a square cushion pink sapphire I have, but I tried the sapphire in another setting and loved it. Do these complement each other enough to set together or should I go with an OEC pair in a higher color as I originally planned for this spinel and setting?

It might depend on your ring size. For me, it looks like a lot of finger coverage.
However, I love the stones!! They look as if they would make lovely earrings.

No worries on the ring size and the spread, the setting is a 6.5 and I actually find it a dainty look for my personal preferences.

More interested in if others find the combo pleasing enough to see them set together in the setting shown or if they seem to clash too much and I should go with my original plan of setting the spinel in that setting with an OEC pair? But, I am guessing that the silence speaks volumes in this instance and should probably just set the spinel with the OEC's.

PT-Thanks, I love the diamond pair too :) But, I actually already have a pair of studs similar to these that are my daily wear earrings. The spinel is fabulous also, it is one of the brightest, most sparkly stones I own-pictures really don't do it any justice.

Here''s a side view of the setting.

I''m not sure the shapes mesh well. Maybe if the round were larger, I don''t know. Individually I love the stones!

It just doesn’t look right to me, even though the cushions are angled to soften the sharper lines.

Thanks for the responce SG! I should add that the photoshopped first pic is not to scale, but the best I could do. I am thinking that all rounds might be the way to go, but was surprised at how much I liked the stones together in person. I wish I could get all the stones to sit together upright in the setting, so I could see what I really thought of them together. Just when I get one stone to sit upright, the next one either falls out completely or into the the setting all wonky-really frustrating!

Thanks for the input Chrono! My big concern is getting it right the first time with this setting, as it was very expensive and I don''t think changing out stones will be very easily done once set.

I agree with the others that while all three stones are exquisite, they don''t look as pleasing together. But that is one amazing setting - I LOVE it!

No, don''t set the spinel with the cushions. They are overpowering the spinel, and they look strange together.

I''m not a fan, though I love the idea of it- it just looks a little off...go with the OEC''s. but I do LOVE the setting! gorgeous!

Sorry, I have to also agree with the others. These shapes don''t work together.

If the center stone was another mm or 2 bigger I would love it...

I would go with OEC''s rather than the cushions.

I really like cushion side stones and those are quite nice. I do think that they need to flank a larger stone otherwise they will compete rather than compliment.

I think I would prefer it with OEC''s too.

Like everyone else said, they''re great stones, but perhaps not together?

The side stones seem to really compete with that middle stone, maybe its the size of them. I can see them working better if they were 3mm and not 5.

The setting is gorgeous!

Thanks so much for the opinions! OECs it is :)

Yesterday I was somehow able to get 2 of the stones to actually sit in the setting long enough to take a not so fabulous fingerprint filled photo.
