Royal Jewels

I also think Kate would suit the diamond collet necklace in the sale or Portland Jewels.

I predict that on the wedding day, HM QEII will wear the Queen Charlotte and Queen Caroline pearls, and the flower brooch with the huge pink diamond in it.

I also think Kate will have something new, maybe a gift from William to wear on the day, possibly including a tiara bought especially for her, as Sofie had (yes I know her tiara was made of old brooch settings, but it was made for he as a tiara). Sarah, Duchess of York also had jewels bought for her, including a tiara that she wore disguised with flowers in it as she entered the Abbey, the flowers being taken out after the service before she left the Abbey.

I just think William is romantic enough to buy her wedding jewels.

The Williamson Pink Brooch I mentioned and the Queen Charlotte and Queen Caroline Pearls. the last pic is of a pair of earrings made with pearls that were a gift to the Queen on her wedding day, has anyone seen her wearing them? I think they would suit Kate.

The first picture are the earrings that HM QEII wore on her own wedding day with the Queen Charlotte and Queen Caroline Pearls.

The second picture is a pair of diamond bangles that were a wedding gift to Queen Mary that she gave to QEII - has anyone seen the Queen wear these? I think they would look good today - and yes, I think they would look good on Kate! Sorry, I love a bit of speculation!

BTW - the tiara of the DoE's mother, is that still in the family? Just that the diamonds to make a bracelet and those for the Queens E-ring were taken from it, It must have been big to have lost so may gems and still been wearable.

The Tiara from which the QEII Engagement ring and the large barecelet were formed, was broken off.

The other one "greek key design" is property of Princess Anne.

The Lover's Knot was Diana's property (maybe with a assignment not to sell) is kept with other jewels from Diana (ring, emerald choker, large saphire brooch (in necklace) and gifts from the Arabs) by the Queen in trust for the wifes of William and Harry.

I thought I read the Lover's Knot tiara was a gift. Would look so nice on Kate if it's not too redolent of Diana. William probably will buy her some jewels & QE is bound to give her something as a wedding present. Can't wait to see what.

The Queens Charlotte & Caroline pearls knock me out. The color & lustre are just smashing. And the Williamson pink diamond has always been one of my favorites, though I'm not a pink diamond fan normally. It's so saturated, you have to drool.

of course it was a gift. but I really can't image that HM or the RF want that those very historic items could be sold.

I think there is a notary contract for these cases.

is there any state visit soon for any of the royal families?

So here's a thought that has crossed my mind...should Kate only get 1 tiara? We are talking about the future queen of England here. Diana, when it was thought that she would also be queen one day, had two tiaras to choose from. Granted one of them was her family tiara, but what if she didn't have the Spencer tiara (as is Kate''s situation...no family tiara)? Should the future queen only have one tiara? None of the other crown princesses (Letizia, Mary, Maxima, etc) are limited to one tiara. True Kate is not a crown princess, but that is essentially the role she will be playing.

I think she should get a new tiara (maybe made from stones already with the RF) AND a tiara with some history to it.

I'll bet the RF gives her one to start with & before long she shows up with a second. You're right, LadyMaria, she will probably need more than one & they've got plenty to choose from, or she could get a new one.

Alexander, what I meant was that the LK tiara was a gift to Diana & not just a loan from HM. Which would mean it would have gone to Harry &/or William rather than back to QE (though in William's case, it's almost the same thing).

Which countries are likely to give Kate jewelry as wedding presents? As I recall, Diana received many wonderful pieces of jewelry at her wedding.

A lot fromt he Middle east that have royalty will, they did for HM QEII.

The Saudis obviously come up with good stuff. The Reagans sent a Steuben bowl from the American people. Ahem, what will Obama send, an iPod? Given the economy I suppose countries from the old Empire, Canada, Australia et al., won't be as lavish as when Charles & Diana were married, but will send something nice. Here is an account from the PoW's wedding: "Despite efforts at secrecy, Canada's wedding gift has already been disclosed. It is a roomful of antique Canadian furniture of the 18th and early 19th centuries, and apparently Prince Charles and Lady Diana were consulted before it was chosen. The furniture includes a four-poster bed in maple, two wooden candle stands, a mahogany toilet mirror and a small drop-leaf desk.

"The Canadians have also sent more personal gifts. For Prince Charles, a watercolor of loons was specially commissioned from the artist Robert Baneman, and a large brooch of gold, diamonds and platinum for Lady Diana.

"In the grand style, Australia is giving 20 handcrafted silver platters, each inscribed on the back with the date of the marriage. The platters will be presented in a French-polished box made from Australian blackwood. New Zealanders have promised a more practical gift of a quantity of all-wool broadloom carpet. A spokesman at the New Zealand High Commission describes it as ''very handsome.'' " My favorite from the Brits was a silver-plated mousetrap sent by an individual citizen. You never know when you might have silver-plated mice in the palace!

Out of curiosity I've been looking for a photo of the Steuben bowl sent to Charles & Diana by the Reagans (and us?). No luck. According to an article in NY Magazine the bowl itself was blown in 1975, intended for an Arab sheik with engraving of American sports heroes, but that fell through & the etching was not done. For the PoW's wedding Steuben engraved nobles, knights & crusaders on it. Its cost was reputed to be between $50,000 and $75,000 but Steuben gave the White House a special price of $8000 for it. Anybody able to locate a pic?

Today in Brussels The Duke of Parma, HRH Prince Carlos de Bourbon de Parma, married religiously Annemarie Gualtherie van Weezel (Princess de B de P since the civil wedding earlier this year). The new Duchess of Parma wore the diamond base of the Dutch emerald tiara. The emeralds were replaced by large poire pearls and matching earrings:http://www.ppe-agency.com/500px/Nov2010/PPE10112023.jpg

WOW, does HM look great in this photo. She doesn't look 84 at all here. I think she's getting younger and younger, instead of older. ;))

It's just normal that The Queen and The Duke don't look their current ages as the photo was taken at the time of their Golden weddig in late 1997, 13 years ago. But I agree with you that even today, at the age of 84, HM looks really good and younger than she is.

Maybe it's the photo, but I don't recognize the necklace HM is wearing in that photo.

And wow, that's SOME brooch Caroline has!! Haven't seen that before -- you can't forget it if you have.

as HM wore this set - there is a necklace with matching earrings, in a golden setting with smaller diamonds in a tassle design - for more private events, it's possibly a family gift, or from the arabs.

If I remember correctly, the most private event when HM has worn the set (there's also a bracelet) was her and Prince Philip's golden wedding anniversery, most likely because it's set in yellow gold. Other than that she's also worn it at a return banquet (Alexander's pic), a banquet in Australia and a State Visit to/from Morocco. There might well be other occasions, I don't know.
Anyway, the fact that The Queen wore the set for the Moroccan SV, makes me think that King Hassan II is the presenter of these jewels. What's more, this is the earlist outing of the jewels I've seen.

I didn't realize that photo was from 97 and I assume before Diana's death that year? She still looks great (I disagree with you about the DoE though). I think she looks way better and younger than a ceratain older daughter-in-law that shall remain nameless. ;)) ;))

The Princess Elizabeth and Sir Philip Mountbatten were married on 20th November 1947. No reason for them the cellebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an advance of some months/half an year. "The Royal Gala" at the Festival Hall In London was on 19th November 1997. Almost three months after the unfortunate death of Diana, Princess of Wales.

I never said The Duke of Edinburgh still looks good and young. I did say this about the Queen. What I did say about The Duke is that in the photo he doesn't look his current age (almost 90), because it was taken (the photo) 13 years ago;)

It's a lovely necklace, earrings & bracelet set (a demi-parure or suite, eh, Danny?) -- somewhat modern & spiffy for HM. Looks very nice on her.

Anybody know the background on that incredible brooch of Caroline's? I couldn't find any info. Is it real? If so, must have cost a fortune! She is one of the few women who can wear that & not look overwhelmed; it's great on her.
