A couple of shots of CP Victoria at the 2010 Nobel ceremonies.

Please someone, does the Cut-steel tiara actually have any gems set in it, or is the sparkle all from metal work?

We had a lot of votes for the sapphires on Queen Silvia and we were right!! I still wish CP Victoria had worn the Connaught though.

I'm pretty sure there are no gems. Since cut-steel was supposed to be a way to acheive the sparkle of a tiara without expensive jewels, it seems like it would be defeating the purpose of a low-cost tiara if it had jewels in it too.

there is no diamonds at all in the cut steel tiara,

The last coronet was worn at the 1953 coronation of HM QEII but Princess Helena Victoria (I think he sister was there but too frail to wear the coronet and a tiara). The coronet has four flur-de-lys and four strawberry leaves, the flur-de-lys being at the front, back and sides. Below is a picture of her wearing the coronet in 1953, but it is fuzzy. It is the older lady in the middle of the picture.

Hi Neil!

HH Princess Helena Victoria didn't attend the 1953 Coronation as she passed away in 1948 - fife years earlier. Her sister Maria-Luise, however, was there and wore her Indian tiara. I'm not swre id she wore a coronet.
The old lady in the middle of the 1st row in photo looks like Lady Patricia Ramsay, formerly Princess Patricia of Connaught, sister of CPss Margaret of Sweden. Princess Marie-Louse was seated on the nex (3rd) row;)

Here are some clear photos of today's Nobels:

The Queen - am I the only one who's not mad about the colour combination? I'm also not keen on the bolero, but I can't deny that the gown is beautiful http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/048K5jk8pj9VC/610x.jpg

The Crown Princess - The Empire dress, the Empire tiara... just beuatiful. The cut steel has really grown on me since last year... BTW, the royal court states that the tiara was originally Queen Hortense's. This is the first time we hear sometrhing about its prevenence.

Princess Christina wore her sapphires and her pearl tiara - http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0bLy7ZJ7uSa4f/610x.jpg

Now I can't wait to see what they'll wear tomorrow!

PS: To all that want to see Victoria with the Connaught diademe - we'll have to wait for some time. Maybe even till (God forbid!) The King or The Queen pass away. Then it would go (I presume) to the foundation and become one of the shared jewels.

Here is an interesting link....I don't think the "experts" are us. We all agree the Dehil Durbar and the Girls of Great Britain are not the tiaras that Catherine will get.

And the idea of Catherine wearing Sara Ferguson's tiara has NEVER been brought up (though it is a great piece).

http://www.people.com/people/package/gallery/0,,20395222_20447706,00.html

The best thing I find about this link are the photos and the info. I wonder when the photos the Teck, the rose and the DD tiaras were taken - specially for the article or are these replicas?

Of course the York tiara is more than an unlike choice as it's still Sarah's property. Out of all the tiaras in the link, I think the likeliest choices are the Scroll and the Strathmore rose tiaras.

Last night The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall attended the Royal Variety Performance at the London Palladium after a dagerous trip from Clarence House.
Her Royal Highness wore her impressive emerald set (necklace and bracelets).http://cache3.asset-cache.net/xc/10...680E810F0823D89851825ABB05D1CF6AE527FF47EAF1C
*There's a pair of earrings, but I've only seen Camilla wear them once (the first outing of the set).

I'm glad TRHs made it safely through the mob last night. That's a good photo of Camilla, Bobby; she looks quite serene after the ordeal. I read that as a result of this incident, an investigation will be launched into the hows and whys they wound up in the middle of a mob scene, thus causing endangerment to their lives. As well, the police and the palace will also be taking an extra look into heightened security for the royal wedding to prevent such occurrences.

not a royal diamond, but a fine large one (33ct)
the Krupp (originally from Vera Krupp) now with Elizabeth Taylor

Is this the ring that Richard Burton gave her?

Yes, he did. He also gave her the Taylor Burton diamond that's even larger. That one she sold.

I think most of her jewelry came from Richard Burton. She's now Dame Elizabeth Taylor, so can we talk about her in the royal thread???? :naughty:

She does look lovely. Prince Daniel cleans up nicely too.

Bobby, I love Queen Sylvia's color combination. The sapphires look marvelous on her & blue & green is one of my favorite combos.

The colour of those emeralds is amazing and the necklace is fabulous.

Does anyone have a picture of the earrings?

But Madeline wore the Connaught at the wedding. If the lesser of the two princesses has already worn it, why would we have to wait for Queen Silivia to pass away before the Crown Princess could wear it?

I'm sort of torn on this one. If the gown had been done in royal blue then I think the whole ensemble would have have awesome. But, it doesn't look totally hideous either.

Speaking of hideous, Princess Mabel strikes again.

This is at the funeral of Carlos, Duke of Parma. Note the fish scales she is wearing in her hair.

And here is Princess Mabel at the wedding of the new Duke of Parma. The gray jacket is cut at a weird angle, the sleeves are awkward, doesn't seem to match the pink dress underneath, and she has a tail sticking out the back of her head.

And here is Mabel with her mother-in-law

Another shot of CP Victoria showing the empire waist of the dress. Could it be covering a bit of tummy? To be fair, one always looks like one could be expecting in this style of dress. Time will tell, for sure.

Ok! I agree with you. The Crown Princess should be allowed to wear it before the deaths of her parents, but it won't be tonight as the tiara sparkled on the head of the younger sister this year. They can wear the pendants as necklace of course. I'd like it to stay with The Queen for some more time. You know that it is mostly associated with Princess Sibylla and Queen Silvia in Sweden, although more princesses have worn it.

I love the emerald green color of the gown. And, when she walked, the tiers of the skirt flowed beautifully. The gown had a train, and Silvia looked every inch the queen.

Another shot of the sapphire tiara. Just gorgeous.

On the side view, it looks like CP Victoria is emulating her mother's elaborate hairstyles. I'm glad....it is one of my favorite things about Queen Silvia! I love her dramatic hair with tiaras.

I can hardly see Princess Christina's tiara...it blends in with her hair!

I think Queen Sylvia's dress is beautiful too -- especially the skirt. I'm with Bobby on the bolero top, kind of dims the elegance, but when you get older you avoid bare upper arms, so I see the reason for it. Those women do their hair so wondefully & wear tiaras & other jewels in it with such imagination!

The Queen is wearing the Nine prong tiara, a riviere, diamond earrings and the Brazilian (?) brooch
The Crown Princess - Queen Victoria's sapphire, pearl and diamond necklace, pearl poire earrings and brooch in the hair
Princess Christina - her pearl and pink stone necklace and earrings and at best her own tiara

That's right. Last night HRH had a most elaborate hairdo. You can see a back view here - http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ed7KEPTG8bU/TQKsVhPjqVI/AAAAAAAAF1I/zNmB_M_ksYQ/s1600/775.jpg

BTW, Queen Silvia seems to prefer simpler hairdos now. I almost wonder how the tiaras are kept in place...

Indeed! Women above a certain age should avoid wearing sleeveless gowns and tops, but I dare say HM The Queen of Sweden is among the exceptions. Look at HM's beautiful silhouette at the return banquet during this year's State Visit to Brazil (and have in mind she's ~67):
