Happy New Year to all!

thanks for the invitation!

(now where is my glass slipper?)

DiaGem... actually that IS a serious question and I don''t think its anything to roll your eyes at. I didn''t know if he was celebrating with Jewish friends or if it was an English tradition to celebrate both Hanukah and Christmas as some religions do or if it was another reason. Thanks for your informative reply LadyA.

Queen Margrethe of Denmark giving her New Years speech. She is wearing a diamond daisy brooch that was given to her by Queen Ingrid on her 60th birthday. "Daisy" is a family nickname for Margrethe.

The white elephant is a symbol of the Danish Royal House. Mary received this order too when she married Frederik.

Mary and Frederik. You can just see the necklace poking out underneath Mary''s cape.

I do not know if "Margrethe" has the same etymon as "Marguerite", "Margarita", "Margarida", and "Margherita", but all of the former mean "daisy" in French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian.

Things have been a bit slow on the royal jewelry front. The royals generally take a long break after Christmas and are only now getting back into the "big jewelry events". Here is a recent shot of Princess Victoria of Sweden wearing a beautiful russian fringe style tiara, diamond and ruby brooch and the family order.

Poor Mabel - apparently the wedding cake exploded all over her dress and she was fored to walk down the aisle in that confection. Eeeeeewwwwww!

I''ll never be able to figure out how she landed the best looking of the Orange brothers. Everyone thought he was a confirmed bachelor before this....
It would have been a very smart dress with out all those hideous bows! What a shame...you know the thing cost a fortune!

I like the fact that the ring is a historic family ring. Prince Charles is a bit obsessed with this aspect of his relationship with Camilla since she is the great grand-daughter of Alice Keppel who was the mistress of Edward VII. Prince Charles has been buying up any of Alicce Keppel''s jewels that come on the market in order to give them to Camilla.
Family or not, just the idea of comparing the Rottweiler with Miss Keppel is disgusting! Why oh why did Camilla have to get that rock???...and all the other jewels! *tears clothes, throws ashes*
