THE DUCHESS OF EDINBURGH WILL ATTEND ANZAC DAY COMMEMORATIONS IN LONDON

Friday 25th April 2025

The Duchess of Edinburgh will attend the annual Anzac Day commemorations in London, organised by the Australian and New Zealand High Commissions. Her Royal Highness will attend the dawn service at Hyde Park Corner, and later the service of commemoration and thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey.

The Duchess of Edinburgh will also attend the wreath-laying ceremony at the Cenotaph and lay a wreath on behalf of His Majesty The King.

Anzac Day has been observed in London since King George V attended the first service at Westminster Abbey in 1916 to mark the anniversary of the landings at Gallipoli in 1915. Since then, the services have become an important moment to commemorate all Australians and New Zealanders who lost their lives in conflict and recognise all those who have served.

Anzac Day is commemorated as a public holiday in Australia and New Zealand, with memorial ceremonies held at various locations.

In Holland, "King's Games" (also known as Koningsspelen in Dutch) refers to a series of traditional Dutch games played during King's Day, a national holiday celebrating the King's birthday on April 27th. These games are often silly and quirky, and include activities like biting into a cake dangling from a rope (koekhappen), or throwing toilet bowls. Other popular games include pin the tail on the donkey (ezeltje prik) and nail-pooping (spijkerpoepen).

im not sure i want to know what Nail-pooping is ???

it good the kids seem to be enjoying it, i think Queen Camila would love an invite

O my. It’s almost embarrassing to see these old traditions in another language. You get a belt with a nail on a string and you have to lower it into usually a bottle. It’s hilarious watching and playing
