After lots of reading, some first hand advice, and the purchase of a light box and a couple lights, I think I have gotten a better handle on photographing jewelry. I set the white balance for the lighting I was using and the light box seems to have helped a lot from my previous attempts at photographing jewelry. I shot in aperture priority and did a lot of reading up on the proper settings to use for jewelry photography. All-in-all I am really happy with how this turned out compared to my previous attempts.

Please feel free to leave comments/questions on both the photography and the garnet. I appreciate input on both and hope you like the picture.

I have a half carat Russian demantoid that exact same color and rbc cut. It''s very dispersive. Congrats on your new ring.

I agree with TL, Demantoids are so dispersive and that''s incredibly difficult to capture in a photograph. Your photograph is lovely and clear and I can imagine how the stone dances in that setting!

nice pic..keep practicing and taking pics..so far so good!!

Nice close up of the ring and gem! Hope you''ll be posting more photos. TFS!!

Very pretty ring.

Thank you for all the replies. While this ring is not one of my personal pieces, I will definitely enjoy it during the time I have with it. I haven''t seen near as many stones in my short time involved with jewelry as I am sure some of you PS''ers have but, of those I have seen, this is one I really like.
