no no, it's a different alex. the one that I post on that forum is one of those alex that I bought around 30 years ago. it is the best alex I had in my collection. I still have one more alex with the same royal blue (vB6/4) to true ruby red (R5/4), but smaller and slightly included. The one that I posted last week is not even close to my best. And it is still in Gubelin HK. I will pick it up next January

This is the first I've heard that the best alex have a blue colorway

Fine!! Would be a shame to sell this alex...

My stone is small - only 0,22 ct EC - but def. russian with a nice clarity and an interesting twinning plane - look at the picture in the article - this is what I mean. You see different colors course of the twinning in combination with the strong pleochroism.

I will try to make a daylight picture in water - one side was deeper green and 2/3 was green with a hint a yellow - incandescent was uniform with a good change. Hope to get it next week.

I will feed my piggybank the buy two other stones with a strong change and good clarity - still "small" but excellent color ( and much higher price)!

My project for next year. Maybe I will sell some gems - I will concentrate on garnet, chrysoberyl, spinel and some rare gems.

I don't need most of the rest anymore.

well, it is not something you can find in any regular vendor. In fact, blue-red alex is less rare than green-red alex. I have seen a few blue-red alex, but I have yet to see any green-red alex (except Tino's pic). The closest one I have seen is green-grayish pink. By red in here, of course, true red instead of purplish red.

If you do not mind, how much does the other two alex cost? what is the flou-incandescent color?

Sorry, I can''t give you these infos...

Tino's pic - is that the stone in the 88 G&G article I posted about brazilan chrysoberyl and alexandrite ( Hematita) - a russian clean cushion around 1-1,5 ct???

I have never seen a ruby red incandescent light color - the best is fine rhodolite color.

Emerald by day, ruby by night - a fairytale

deep to dark bluishgreen tourmaline by day to rhodolite by night would be better.

The colorchange blue to purplered would be like a Bekily garnet - but I have never seen this change in an Alex ( natural or synthetic)

The Tairus synthetic Alexandrite in University Munich exhibiition are slightly grayish purple - like the stone you posted.

I agree that the emerald green <-> ruby red alexandrite does not exist. It tries but cannot even come close to the best of both types.

I like this quote.

Marlow, I am not sure how to use this dichroscope. I tried to use it, and I saw two square. One square shows stronger color than the other one

Awesome article!
