Just a quick question. I was wondering what the average salary is for a salesperson in the jewelry industry? I''m looking to get a position soon (well, hopefully) in a retail store ( above average store, somewhat higher end) as a salesperson. What should I expect, on average. I know it varies depending on location and such, etc, etc.

Thanks!

Well in NYC it varies SO much on WHERE you work that it''s almost impossible to nail down a range. Most people get comission, with a lower salary. Usually below $30K, from what I have seen.

I think Herlzberg Diamonds was offering a position in their sales department for $32K and 10% commission on profit. Know also that if you work in some stores, I believe each one''s commissions can differ in how to calculate, so ASK. Best thing to do is look on GIA''s website to see jobs and what they offer all over the US...

no slary, but here was a position in Illinois:

Position: Sales Executive
Location: Illinois

Description: Diamond wholesaler servicing the jewelry industry since 1986 in Chicago, Illinois is currently seeking a Sales Executive. Candidate must be a motivated, sales driven individual capable of in-house telemarketing as well as traveling on the road to sell to manufacturers and retailers. Other duties involve servicing wholesale orders and existing house accounts by phone, providing sales support, and processing memos. Must be well organized, detail oriented, trustworthy, punctual, and willing to learn. Diamonds Graduate, GG preferred.

Salary: Negotiable / DOE
Benefits: Vacation / 401K
Hours: Full time

PM me if you want the contact info...

The GIA site for employement. If you study with GIA, ask them in Carlsbad to help you with a resume and they also have more up-to-date job postings, so ASK them, as they are the best way to learn of opportunities.

If you are a bit daring, walk into a store and ask if they are looking and strike up a friendship and ask them how their pay structure works... Good luck!
