Sapphire Advice

Hi all -

I am currently in the process of selecting a sapphire for a „toi et moi“ ring in combination with a diamond.

The diamond is a 0.81 G VS2 (round cut) no fluorescence and the plan is to pair it with a rounded square cushion sapphire with similar measurements (~5.9mm).

While I am a bit more proficient with diamonds this will be the first sapphire I‘ll buy. Having spoken with friends and read through some threads I am looking to get a ~1.1 eyeclean sapphire from Ceylon with a nice cornflower blue colour.

However, given the combination with the diamond I am wondering if a more intense royal blue would be more appropriate here for contrast reasons. I am adding videos of two different stones my jeweler sent me - any thoughts?

Also given this will be the first sapphire I will buy, any general advice & things you would recommend me?

I’m not an expert so I can’t speak to quality on those stones, but I like a medium cornflower blue. I don’t like too stark of a contrast between the diamond and the second stone. But that’s me.

Also, you might be better posting this in the Colored Stone section since it’s really about the sapphire.

Check out the selection at Gemfix, Andrew cuts these stones personally and includes Pantone color approximation on his website. I purchased a beautiful matched pair from him locally a few years ago for my wife’s wedding studs (with Wink’s assistance) and would highly recommend him!
