I decided recently that I needed sapphire studs.
I looked around online and everything was overpriced, in my opinion.
I tried a few pawn shops, no luck there.
But my local gem and mineral shop came through, as always!
I bought 2 little sapphires, .50 each, and sterling stud mountings. It look me literally 10 minutes to set them.

Wow great job I love this! I wish there was a little gem shop around the corner from me too. But then again….(looks in my empty wallet)

So pretty and delicate - enjoy!

Love that color, they look great!

I wish I lived near a wonderful little gem shop, too! I quite like instant gratification.

I originally misread your post to mean that the sapphires were 50 cents & I thought the gem shop was REALLY amazing!!! :D

Lovely project, lovely outcome. It would be fun to shop with you---you always find the best stuff!

Pretty, pretty!
This is why I love PS, everyone reading this immediately nods wisely in agreement while thinking, 'Yes, of course, as one does...'

The sapphires were $20 each. I chose the two on the far right. They were all sparkly, but I couldn't get all of them to light up at once. The foam backing makes them look dull.
It really makes you think about the mark-up on gems in finished jewelry. I'm tempted to go back for rubies....

Please go back for rubies. That is all, I'll leave it there...

Very pretty!! Have you ever set stones before? If not, I’m amazed how well you did that!

I've been making my own jewelry for about 18 years. A lady from Zuni Pueblo taught me silversmithing.
This is my messy bench.

Wish this picture was in the first post to give a fuller picture and proper context… before I started to half believe my clumsy fumbling hands could do such a task!! :)

It wasn't hard, really! You just use needle nose pliers!

Stracci you need to start taking orders

Haha, no way, sister!
I just make jewelry for me!
I've had persnickety customers in the past....
and that's no fun!

I still commend you for your skill.

Last week, my kiddo wanted a necklace like mommy. So I took a pendant and put it with the shortest and least expensive chain I had. I'm pretty sure I mangled the clasp and bail, but hey, it works for now!
