Hoping somebody out there can give me some info on a sapphire ring I acquired. The ring is beautiful pale crystal clear blue. I’ve taken it to my local jeweller and assured that yes, it is indeed a sapphire..however it flouresees bright pink/red under shortwave UV.

I’ll take any info anybody has...
Thanks!

I can’t help but I’m curious to see what others say as my MIL’s pale violet sapphire also fluoresces bright pink under UV.

I did a quick google and there’s some threads on PS and lots of other links that suggest chalky fluoro can be indicative of heating and also pink indicates chromium.

This stone is crystal clear and is just as clear under uv. No chalkiness at all is present.
I wonder if this is perhaps an oddity..

What significance does fluoroessence (?) Have?

I've seen this on at least one report of a natural blue sapphire, but I don't know the significance of it (other than it can happen?).

This is my pink sapphire, it is heat treated.

I'm sorry i'm just not getting it, so it glows under black light? and that means heat treatment? I'm kinda curious to get a black light and see what my green sapphire does.

From my understanding the presence of chromium will cause fluorescence in sapphires and although it is more common in certain colors it can affect all colors of sapphire. This article has a bit about it for anyone interested in reading more:

Thanks Stephanie!

I've read that natural sapphires from Ceylon will Fluor under black light. Again I think it has to do with the impurities that mix with the sapphire in that area of the world. Can't find that info now it was a couple years ago when I read it.
