Hi Everyone,

I just got a save the date from a family member for a wedding that is over 7 months out. My question is: when is the right time to send these?

My wedding planner is siding on the 4-6 month mark, as she thinks that at 6 months it is almost too much time, and then you have to worry about people forgetting they ever got the save the date to begin with...

Thoughts?

We have an Oct wedding planned and were going to send them out end of this month, but now I am concerned we need to get these out ASAP

I can''t recall where, but I just recently read that Save the Dates should be sent out 6 - 8 months in advance.

I sent mine about 6 1/2 months before my wedding.

thanks for the response!

I''m about 6 months out now (whoa!!) and we''re going to send them out this week. We''re only sending to the OOTers who''ll need to make travel arrangements.

I have a friend who is sending hers out soon for a July 2010 wedding!

I want to tell her she''s crazy, but can''t. Oh well.

BF just asked me this yesterday. His cousin is getting married in December, and every now and then BF gets mock annoyed and asks me, "Where my Save The Date???" This time I tried gently reminding him that they may decide to have a small wedding and not invite him/us. He pointed out that if they do that, that pretty much guarantees that we''ll have to have a big wedding. Now I''m anxiously watching the mailbox, too!

I have read 4-6 months for domestic weddings, but I''ve also heard that for destination weddings that involve significant travel (i.e. Caribbean, Europe, etc.), the sooner the better, even 10, 11, 12 months in advance! I think it all depends on the arrangements your guests will have to make.

My wedding planner said 8-10 months out...so we sent ours out in late February for our October wedding! It may have been early, but oh well!

I sent mine out Oct 08 we are getting married July 09, but we did magnets so people could hang them on their fridges and never forget!

I sent mine about 3 weeks ago...our wedding is 12/5. I was told it was a good idea to send them early since the wedding is around holiday season and will require most guests to stay overnight.

I sent mine 9 months out.

It allll depends. Do you have OOT guests? Is your wedding during the holiday season? Is it possible that a LOT of people will be tied up with stuff during your wedding time frame?

For a Christmastime wedding (Dec 19th), lots of school teachers in the family (right before their break begins), and 1/2 OOT guests-- 9 months was ideal,

We are only sending ours at 4 months out. We have > 1/2 OOT guests, but I decided it would be best to send them around when people are likely to actually make travel arrangements.

Wow, didn’t realize there would be so many responses! Thanks everyone for your advice.

We have 175 on the guest list and of that only 12 couples are OOT. Not really holiday month as our wedding is end of October.

We are doing the Magnets as well, so everyone gets to stare at our ugly mugs every time they open the fridge

Hopefully no one will lose them.

I think we are still shooting to get them out no later than the end of May….

We sent ours out about 10-11 months in advance. We are having a majority of OOT guests and since our wedding date falls on a holiday weekend, we wanted to give people lots of time to try and incorporate our date into their schedules.

I think that standardly 6 - 8 months in advance is good especially if most of your guests are local.

I think I sent my out about a year in advance.

I had good reason though...my wedding is memorial day weekend, that sat. before the holidy...people need to request the days off early, and most of the ppl invited have to travel. I wanted to give them PLENTY of notice!

It worked out nice too btw!

I had a friend take a pic of us by a nice fountain, and added to to like a x-mas card background (not christmas themed, but kinda like that, with the nice decor backdrop) and mailed those out!

Cost me like 50.00 and thats it!

We sent ours about 8 months ahead, and the invitations almost 3 months ahead, because our guest list was nearly all OOT.
