searching for a red, red stone (spinel/ruby)

Hello all! I've been going through some health issues and want to have something to celebrate at the end of this all. I've been looking for a jedi-like red red spinel, over 1.5 cts (or that faces up reasonably large). Any leads? I thought I'd ask for help here!

Best wishes for your recovery! There are many PSers who can guide you to good red spinel sources I love the red spinels from Gary Braun at finewatergems.com who is a preferred vendor, but there are a lot of other options.

Thank you! He has beautiful stones, but the ones I like from him are over 3K... the others are gorgeous but look darker than I want in his pictures. Maybe he's just super cautious about hand shots?

i am sorry to hear about your health issues. i can totally appreciate why you want to celebrate when you are feeling better.

I think finding a pure red >1.5 jedi-like spinel for less than 3k is unfortunately quite unlikely

i have seen jedis for less than a carat going for that

i hope i am wrong, maybe others will chime in (i have only sent out inquiries, never purchased one)

They are so expensive, aren't they! I know I will have to compromise... a modifier of some kind, a smaller size, etc. I'm just looking for recs on vendors that could do this. If need be, I'll save up a bit more...

totally. i wish i had heard about them before they became so darn trendy!

i would reach out to desertrose_gems on Instagram ...i think you can only return for store credit, but she has sold some stunning stones and seems to have great prices

I do think itll be hard to find the size you want under 3k. But I would look at yvvorsky.com. He has amazing stuff. I see a lot of pairs but not many large single stones, but I'd reach out via email. Fyi the stuff that would br considered "jedi" is usually from mansin, so when I'm on his site I search that way

i am nervous to recommend overseas vendors now given recent threads. if you have money to lose...maybe take the risk. if not, i wouldn't

just...buyer beware!

I was going to reach out to higems and StellaMaris and see what they had. Sereenigemstones always seems to have GORGEOUS stuff... did you have a good experience with her?

i had an alright experience with her. there were shipping delays when i bought a stone that were unexplained...but this was also during covid and it wasn't a super expensive stone so i wasn't worried

she was very responsive throughout the experience and i think the stone was fairly represented

Good red spinel is expensive in larger sizes, unfortunately I have two of them and the larger one (6 mm) is on the darker side, though still pretty.

A couple of other posts here mention Desert Rose on IG. I've bought from her a couple of times. You get good quality for the price from her IME

I have a smaller one that I got for a decent price, but yikes, you're right! I was quoted some decent prices for some Vietnamese spinel, but I'll have to think about it... thankfully, I have a bit of time to look!

I think there was a post about opalescent sapphires here from her (I think she has a sister selling gems too?) but I haven't. I am curious!
