I jsut won this setting from LOGR. I am planning to use it to make a ring for my mom for Christmas. Now I just need to find the right stone for it. My mom has been very interested in yellow stones lately, so that is what I think I am leaning towards. I am thinking something lemony yellow, no orange or brown tints. I am new to colored gemstones and I have no idea what my options would be. I''d like to stay around $200 for a 8 mm round stone if possible. I''d appreciate any suggestions!

How about citrine, they are gorgeous. Your setting is beautifull, your mom is going to love your gift

Yellow zircon is an inexpensive alternative and it is a great sparkler of a stone!

Yellow beryl is another option (heliodor)

What a nice gift! Your mom will be thrilled! I like the idea of a mali garnet if you can find the right color. Garnets are nice and sparkly!

Heliodor would probably be the easiest to find (and the most affordable), and chrysoberyl wouldn''t be too dificult either. Mali garnets can also be found in that color, but their color range is quite broad and they often have a bit of brown in them (especially the cheaper ones). Yellow tourmaline can also have a great "canary" color, but I''m not sure how available they are.

Citrines that don''t have any brown are hard to find, but there is this heated quartz that''s usually labeled as "lemon quartz" and sold in cheap jewllery. Color isn''t natural, but it''s stable. Zircons of canary color? I''m not sure I ever saw one. They''re either light yellow (buttery) or somewhat occhre, or orangy. There is yellow topaz, but it''s color is never really intense and is often brownish. Sapphires and diamonds don''t fit the budget.
