My fiance and I are having a rather informal wedding at my home. We will be expecting about 80 people. Although it''s informal, we are having a very nice catered dinner, dancing, etc. My fiance thinks that assigned seating is "insulting", but I think that it makes the guests feel more comfortable. Any thoughts????

Thanks
Deborah

Because its at your house I really don''t think it''s necessary.

hi deborah,

we had the same discussion. we've ended up with a compromise: there will be a big chart at the entrance where we'll just assign tables, not individual seats. we hope this feels more relaxed and low-key.

letting people sit wherever they chose to is a great idea but might lead to odd numbers of leftover chairs at the individual tables. so in the end couples might have to sit at different tables, etc.. there is also the comfort-aspect you have mentioned - i feel it also tends to discourage people from mixing and mingling - they'll usually chose to sit with the guests they already know anyway.

just do what feels right for both of you - since there will always be someone who is NOT happy with whatever you chose to do.

We ended up doing the table assignments not the seating arragements. We put everyone that were friends together and whatnot- seems to work out easily- I will let you know on Monday how it went on Saturday! :)

It makes sense though if you are having a sit down dinner- that way everyone knows where they are going to be and don''t have to scramble for seats... :)

hey renee,

sorry to be off topic - how did your dress alterations turn out? *kaschmirstillkeepingfingerscrossed*
