Do you think it''s in poor manners to sell a piece of jewelery you''ve received as a gift but will never wear?

I don't see a problem with it... unless someone very close gives it to you (Mom, husband, kid). Then, I know I'd get the guilts... I gave a sweater away once that my mom gave me and then was sick over it when he asked me where it was.

If it's really nice and just not my style, I will "regift" it to someone I like who i know will enjoy it.

Who gave it to you? And, if they found out, would they be offended?

It was a relative of my husband's. I only see her occassionally (two to three times per year) and I'm not sure if she'd be offended.

The jewelery piece just isn't my style, it's actually hers. lol It's a very dressy and I'm more casual (jeans and sweaters). . . I was thinking of selling to buy something I'd wear more often.

That is a pet peeve of mine. A dear friend buys me a gift for me & always included something she liked -I want to say "so" - dopey little charms like a snowman - definitely her - definitely not me.

That said, is it something classic that you may appreciate in years to come? Except for clothes, I usually keep most of my presents even though I'm not overwhelmed with it. Some I'm glad I kept as tastes, lifestyles & circumstances change.

If it is something that is the flavor of the day, I'd probably sell it.
