I got my hand caught in a drawer last week and popped the diamond right out of my e-ring. ARGH! I also cut the heck out of my hand, but it''s the ring I''m most concerned with... naturally. The stone landed on my carpet so I was able to swoop it up and put it in a jewelry pouch. My jeweler is in TX, so I have to send my ring away for repair.

He said to send it Registered Mail, but what kind of value do I declare? What we paid for it? or What it is insured for (replacement value)? Is there a lot of risk with registered mail? Does my insurance cover it when it''s in the mail? (I know, I should call and ask...)

Just wanted to say sorry that happened to you. I am not knowledgable on your questions

I''d like to know the answer as well as I am needing to send mine back to Signed Pieces for to be re-set.

I used the Registered Mail to send my e-ring for fixing when I was over in the US - I put the insured value on.

Everyone I spoke to said it was by far the safest way - it got there no problem. It takes a couple of days - I believe it goes in a locked box that has to be handed over at certain points en-route.

The guy at the PO in Chicago was so nice - I''d never been in a US post-office before and had no idea what forms I needed or anything. The only box it would fit in was HUGE - the small one was just too small - so he emptied out a sellotape box from a cupboard, gave me free bubblewrap and helped me stick it all up.

Thanks for the info Pandora, and for the sympathy, everyone! It hurts to not wear it! but it would hurt to wear it too... my finger is still a bit swollen from the incident.

I''ll put the insured value on it. It''s a bit of a price difference with the cost of mailing it, but if anything does happen to it, I would want full value for it, of course!
