Hi everyone!!!

As some of you may know, I recently purchased a lovely mint green beryl from Jeff White's GemScoop. I was humming and hawing about how to set the stone but I eventually reached out to the lovely David Klass for some help. I'm doing a basic ring setting and wanted to run the CAD by you all to see if you think I might have missed something. This will be my first custom piece so would love input from anyone with some experience.

What are the things I should be looking for in a CAD? Can anyone think of anything I may have missed or may need to ask? I was going for a very simple setting and my number 1 priority was I wanted a delicate band. Do you think the ring band looks a little "thick"? What do you guys think about the double prongs? Also, should I make any considerations for the height of the stone?

First the stone:
A 5.34ct Mint Beryl, dimensions 8.24 x 12.34 mm

My inspiration setting found on google:

And this is the CAD that DK came up with:
I initially wanted to wear it on my middle finger since 5ct is large but I will size it down to a 6 for wear on my right ring finger.

Thoughts, ideas and suggestions are welcome!

Thanks for reading!

Hmm. I think you may have meant to post this in the CS forum?

What kind of pave is he doing? Your pic appears to have bead set with room for little millgrain are you planning to do that ketch this?

Hi Niel! I didn’t even ask what sort of pave he is doing so that’s a great point. I do like the millgrain detail on the inspiration picture and I should probably ask if he can add that too

I think the shank is as thin as it can be with the added diamonds. You could ask about using smaller stones. After the diamonds is the shank flat or a knife edge? I see a line in the CAD that has me wondering. I’ve never had a ring CADed though so I could be seeing something that isn’t there.

ETA: I see the line is from the graph paper behind the CAD.

When I look at the mm measurements I think 2mm is the smallest I can go but the CAD looks wide. I’ll go off the measurements! I also emailed DK to ask re milgrain because I really do like that look. Thanks for your help guys!

I'm no help with the CAD,but wanted to say how much I love the stone and think it will be a gorgeous ring!

Yes 2 mm sounds like a good thickness to me. With the milgrain it might need to be a tiny bit wider.

I really like the look of the basket.

Very classic and pretty. Personally, I'd want to add another diamond on each side so I wouldn't see metal on the band, but see how sizing down changes things first. I love the double claw prongs. I just looked again - are those claws or no? Looks great to me!

The band looks good to me. Most of my rings are 2mm thick and it’s a lot thinner in person than it looks on CAD’s. I agree with @SparkliesLuver about adding one more diamond on each side...but in my defense, I like things blingy. :D Besides that, I think everything looks great. Gorgeous design and I’m so happy that you’re going with double claw prongs. :cool2:

Crazy thought...what if you add milgrain to the zig zag pattern in the profile/gallery. Too much?

The ring is going to be beautiful. I love the mint beryl. Such a fresh color that will look amazing with whatever you wear.

Thank you all for your lovely suggestions. As my first taste of CAD I think I will keep this pretty simple so as not to be too overwhelming! The claws are a go thanks to you guys and I mentioned the milgrain to DK but he hasn’t said anything yet.
I’m so excited to see this piece! I will definitely be posting pics when I get it back. Just justifying it as an Xmas gift to myself this time.... but I can tell this will be addictive!
