I have a cushion pink tourmaline that I want to set in a halo of diamonds, with pave on the shank, in 14k rose gold. The tourmaline is a dark raspberry pink. Can you help me decide:

1) Should the pave be micropave with minimal gold showing, or in bright cut with migrain? I love vintage detailing but not sure if this ring would look legitimately vintage since pink tourmalines weren't used much before (I don't think).
2) Would you do an airline between the stone and halo, or no airline? The stone isn't huge and can easily 'handle' an airline gap.

Photos for inspiration.

1. Micropave style is personal preference.
2. The design as shown is modern and to me, an airline takes away from the design.

With your stone, my vote is for:

1. micropave with minimal metal showing
2. no airline

But all this is to say, it comes down to what you want in the end. Happy deciding! :wavey:

Beautiful stone
I personally love bright cut set, but I feel that micropave will be a great match for your beautiful stone.
And another vote for no airline!!

Good luck in making your final decision :wavey:

That's kind of where my heart was leaning too....regular pave, not bright cut. Acinom I know what you mean, but somehow I don't love bright cut pave in rose gold as much as I do in white or yellow gold? Not sure why...maybe cause 14k rg is bit more 'modern' as the vintage rose golds tend to be more 18krg.

That's not my actual stone, but it looks somewhat similar in shape and colour. It's hard to photograph my stone.

No airline then? How do you feel that it distracts? In what case would an airline be appropriate?

I've always loved Lana Del Rey's emerald ring...gorge.

No airline! Takes away from the whole look IMO.

micropave is more consistent style-wise with a cushion cut pink tourm if its a softer pink like the one you've shown. For me, airlines generally make the piece look cheap to me.

I just wanted to offer an alternative view on the airline, which is that I quite like them! I think they lend a delicate look to the piece, almost like when you see gaps between the patterns in lace.

What do you guys think of this setting? I'd do a single fine mil grain bezel, and bright cut pave in white gold.

oooh this one is gorgeous! I love the milgrain bezel + halo look.

I also like how the white gold makes the pink pop.

Alright I've settled on the original plan to do a micro pave halo with no airline. In white gold. This photo of a dark pink sapphire ring sealed the deal for me. Off to David Klass!!
