I've been trying to figure out how to set my new stone and could use some help. So far the only specific ideas I have is that it'll be white gold and no halo. I'd love double prongs and a deco-ish look. If money were no object I'd get something like the setting that Uppy is getting for her spinel with two vertical baguettes here https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/poll-which-setting-for-my-mahenge-spinel.143504/. which seems perfect for an asscher. But with my limited budget (about $800) it's just not going to happen. A plain white gold setting from a local jeweler (I really would prefer to get my ring there) runs about $600. Do you think there's anything I can get for the other $200 to accent the stone for a more vintage look? Any ideas and/or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

I''d do an 18K yellow gold setting for that. The white gold might not do much for it.

I do like yellow gold with it, I just don''t wear it at all, so it wouldn''t work.
Here''s the stone in question:

You could do that sort of piece by having a setting made from assembled metal parts and commercially available side stones. White or colored sapphire straight baguettes and emerald cuts are available in small sizes from various suppliers and so are the settings and band parts including double pronged settings for Asschers. Pick the right size of band and side stones and you could probably get within your budget using 14K in either white or yellow. 18K would be nice, but for some reason getting individual parts in 18K is difficult and much more expensive than in 14K.

My problem with white gold and golden yellow stones is that if there''s any brown in the stone whatsoever, they tend to bring it out more. I would do a yellow basket at the very least.

Ditto this, Alene.

I have an all white metal fascination (I literally had no yellow gold left until January), but based on advice I received from PSers, I went with an 18k YG bezel setting for my Grossular Asscher from Julia Kay Taylor and the final result is stunning.

I know you never wear yellow gold, but you''d be shocked at how much a white metal can drab out a not saturated enough yellow stone. Take a look at my Scapolite for example.

Michael, thanks for the suggestions! The guy at the local store doesn''t sell anything from outside and makes all of his settings himself by hand. I think I''ll just go with a plain setting if it''s all I can get within my budget.

Lauren, thanks for the link! I actually like the yellow stones in whilte gold, seems to give it more contrast. I''ll ask the jeweler what he thinks. I''m dropping off my stone on Sunday, hopefully I''ll know exactly what we''re doing by then.

I am also not a yellow gold person at all, so I''d probably put the stone in a yellow gold head on a white gold band (or a silver band if you want to save cash).

Sally at Hearts of Water on etsy could probably come up with a vintagy replica using side zircons and 18k gold for around that budget. The wait time is on the long side since it''s a small shop and it''s all hand made, but the quality of her work has been fantastic from what I''m seen of it.

To give you an idea of what mixed metals look like, this is what JKT did with my prasiolite asscher...18k green gold bezel on a silver band:

Haven't received it yet since the listing just went out, but I love it from the pics.

Thanks again for all the suggestions! Just dropped off the stone at the jeweler''s! We''ve decided on going with unplated white gold except for yellow prongs (thanks to your feedback!). The ring will have double prongs, filligree on the basket and one tiny bead set diamond with milgrain edges on each side for a vintage look. It''ll be ready in two weeks. I can''t wait to see it and, of course, to show it off here!

Looking great in my imagination. Look forward to the completion!

are you a male or female?
