Hi all

Was not planning to purchase an emerald but couldn't resist this little pear! (0.43ct). 20171104_075412.png

How would you set this - im thinking yellow gold and in a RHR.....any ideas or inspiration pics?

I take it emeralds need a bezel due to being more delicate stone?

Thanks in advance!

It’s beautiful! I love the color. It looks really lovely and saturated! More than half the time, I prefer colored gems as solitaires, but I like emerald best when set with lots of diamonds. I thought I knew when to bezel set something until I came onto Pricescope. Now I’m confused. Hopefully, someone can come to your rescue.
My mom gave me her ballerina set emerald ring and when I took it to a jeweler to have it sized, he said it had a chip under one of the prongs. My heart sank. The original jeweler did it and didn’t tell my parents when they bought it.

It’s gorgeous! I love how plump the shape is and the lovely green. I vote for yellow gold with emerald. I think it compliments the green so nicely. A few diamondswould be fabulous with it. I can’t speak to which would be safer, prong or bezel. Bezel might be more dangerous having it set, while prongs allow for a bit more exposure during wear. Just as a personal preference, I’d go for prong setting to let the light in. But either way, it’s going to be wonderful!

Will you be wearing it every day all day?

I have an emerald RHR, double halo without much protection and it has no scratches whatsoever. It's held up really well but I only wear it when I'm out and about, not at home.

Eeeeek! I've heard emerald is quite delicate & easily damaged in setting. What did you do with it?

Thank you. I also think it would be nice with a few diamonds but finding it hard to visualise how you would do that with a pear - prong set rounds either side? Every time I search pricescope for pics of emerald & diamond rings....and you enter pear and emerald.....it gets confusing

I would wear it every day as RHR but only outside as well. Do you have pictures? I found one (not an emerald) - is this close to yours?images (1).jpg

Did you have yours made here in Australia? (Im near melb if you have any recommendations). Thanks

Hi Mondayschild. I wear the ring, but am careful with it. You can’t tell it has a chip unless you look through a loupe.

@chatoyancy - are there pics of your ring on forum?

@Gemobsessed - wow! That is amazing

I've also found this picture from old world diamonds which looks like another idea....

Emerald not yet here so keep idea pictures coming!! Going to ask jeweler that made engagement ring to set it. Have emailed him to see if he has any design ideas.

My pic is buried somewhere in the what are you wearing today thread. Here is another pic. It is not blue at all IRL. It is very green. I just have an iPhone camera. My father gave this ring to my mother. My mother gave it to me because emerald is my birthstone and she doesn’t wear it anymore.

Bezel with a diamond halo!

I just saw this in a jewelry store. It's much nicer than this picture and the cool thing about it was that it converted to a pendant. You just unclipped the head and hung it on a chain. (sorry this picture is so big!)

I am biased, because my tourmaline is set in this, but I have a tsavorite that looks very much like an emerald that I might set like this as well, but with diamonds on the shank.

Wow, Elle has created so many gorgeous pieces! I'm not surprised because I think she is an extremely talented designer, but I didn't realize how prolific she's been.

Thank you for your ideas!

@chatoyancy - the colour of your emerald is other-wordly!

@NKOTB - that's a gorgeous, vintage looking setting!

Hmmmm decisions.....part of me thinks it would look nice with oec side stones but not sure about my luck with finding those in Australia. Seems pears are mostly with bezel and halo.

Thank you! I do enjoy looking at it.

My friend has a pear shaped diamond and the side diamonds are trilliant shaped. It is a beautiful ring.

OMG that is gorgeous!!!! LOVE the colour!!!!!!

DOUBLE HALO I say!!!!!!!

Call me crazy, but I'd get a pear diamond (new or old cut) and do a moi et toi ring.

ooooo ooooo ive been looking at moi et toi rings and i LOVE them. Have started thread in rocky talk to get help finding teeny tiny antique pear

Given up on finding old cut (small) pear & instead thinking of using stones from an existing vintage ring in the design.

This is what I was thinking - with emerald at top (this picture is 0.4 ct pear and 0.25ct)

High karat yellow gold with six prongs. I would not bezel since the pressure and invasive procedure of bezeling can have an impact on the fissures that almost all emeralds have.

Duly noted - will ask jeweler for ideas with prongs & integrating diamonds (either halo or side)!!

Keep changing my mind
