I was told that a bezel set can make a colored stone appear darker if it currently is a tad too light for my preference. Has anyone alse heard this? Stones will be set as earrings so depending on style that is not yet decided- might be up against ear so not a lot of light going through anyways. Or might be set to dangle and then will stones might actually appear lighter if set with prong rather than bezel? Thoughts?

Based on a sapphire pendant I have that is bezel set it does make it a little darker from most angles. If you see at the right angle though (looking directly down in to it) it looks the same. Also it would depend on the size of stone.

i''ve been told that it will darken your sapphire by about 5%. based on experience it will darken your stone somewhat. exactly what % i didn''t go about figuring out though

don''t know about a percentage or about sapphires, but bezeling my very very pale tourmaline in YG definitely upped the color in the stone. it still doesn''t look "dark", but it made it look much more saturated than it actually is without a setting. i also played with it in both white and yellow settings, and the YG definitely brought out more of the greenish blue color. don''t know if it works the same with sapphires...

I think yellow gold also tends to give a stone a deeper saturation than white gold. I think the mint tourmaline, although it was bezeled, the yellow gold probably also attributed to the darker color.

My sapphire necklace that is bezel set looks a tad darker now that it is set but not by a whole lot.
